Re: Cold Steel Talk

the pocket clips are mostly good. the compact clips on voyagers and recon 1's work very well for me. the issue is they have too much tension and no smooth patch on the scales. I remove them and sand the scales a bit with 120 grit, then put the clip back on. Then I slide a few coins under the clip an...

Re: Sharpening my Spydercos. A simple question...

When sharpening my Spydercos (on my KME) I usually take my edges all the way to 1500 grit and then strop and sometimes use lapping films to achieve a mirror edge. I have noticed that a mirror edge cuts much differently than a courser edge and almost slides across material as opposed to digging into...

Re: Military Sprint Runs No More?

It's interesting to me there's always more people lamenting the end of the Military 1 sprints than there are people posting Military 1 sprints in the daily carry thread. By a wide margin, too.

Where did you find a NIB micarta street beat?
they pop up on ebay from time to time. I got a brand new one 2-3 years ago.

If I remember I'll post a picture of mine in the armatus sheath when I get home. Yes, I have tried the micarta version with that sheath and they work well together.

Re: Cold Steel Talk

I have a carbon V laredo bowie and a UWK. Wish they would do another run of UWKs in 3V. I've been carrying my old xl voyager a lot lately. A 5 inch blade at 5.25 oz is pretty good on my book. https://i.imgur.com/p5E6ziE.jpeg I think that's the best gen for EDC. Better clip and grippier scale textur...

Re: Looking for a kydex sheath for a Street Beat with a micarta handle

armatus carry sb sheath works with both versions.

i don't think it's a good design though. the thumb ramp push off location is in a poorly thought out spot in my opinion. for me its uncomfortable to use the push off on their sheath.

solid sheath other than that.

Re: Community Sharpening Journal

Yep, if you use a microbevel you can do large jumps between grits. I often go straight from a belt sander to a fine ceramic spyderco stone. I agree with regards to raising a burr. There's no reason to intentionally do it once you have some practice under your belt. I never raise one on purpose when ...

Re: Does side to side blade play matter?

I also never had a Seki knife where You couldn't get rid of lateral play. They might become a bit stiff to open, but backlocks are never really smooth either way... Backlocks aren't the smoothest lock, but if you tighten the pivot too much there is extra friction on the tang that is very noticeable...

Don't have one. Little small for my preferences and the ergonomics don't work well for me.

Re: Upping the price.

was going through old documents and among them are knife receipts.

szabo folder second run - $165

yojimbo 2 - $125

rex45 native chief sprint - $167

The yojimbo 2 was purchased in 2017 and now they're $200. They debuted at $95-99 IIRC.

Re: Does side to side blade play matter?

My LC200N Salt folders all have side to side and up and down play. At the end of the day it doesn't seem to matter in use, but it does make the knife feel cheaper than knives without play. I cannot adjust it out. The knives becomes increasingly difficult to open well before the pivot screw is tight ...

Re: Upping the price.

I think it's a mistake to take Larrins numbers as gospel. One steel having a 3 in edge holding and another having a 4 in edge holding does not mean every company using those steels are going to heat treat them exactly the same as Larrins test pieces, and it does not mean every end user is going to r...

Re: thoughts on a Spyderco Machete

I don't think I'd be interested to be honest. You can get an 18-24" tramontina for $10. Or a similar sized Cold Steel with sheath for $15-30. Spyderco would not compete in that area, which means they would go for a more upscale design. There we have a 16" Ontario machete with micarta scale...

Sorry to say, but except the Espada Large G10 i haven't been thrilled by anything post- Ventura Cali.. Their newest designs haven't done much for me. I think the SRKC is the newest design I have from them. May pick up a Mayhem someday, and if they do 5 Max Scouts I'm in. Got my BD1 Voyager to repla...

Re: Community Sharpening Journal

sharpening choil. on a lot of knives I can't get to the very heel of the edge. For those knives I'll use diamond sharpmaker rods to hit that area, or use a chefknivestogo flattening plate to set the edge before refining it on the harbor freight stone. that's probably their biggest drawback. Anytime ...
