Re: Model request : Pry-Byrd - specialised knife w/ blade for light prying

Does anyone already offer a pry bar backspacer? I know I've seen 'ring' backspacers. There has to be someone offering a pry variant somewhere. 5x5 has a backspacer for Endura/Delica models with a flat blade screw driver that they claim can be used for light prying: https://5x5combatsolutions.com/sh...

Re: A few newbie questions

Another option is to carry the knife in a pocket sheath or "knife slip" when you're wearing pants you want to protect. For example: https://www.etsy.com/market/leather_knife_slip If you search the big online retailers (KnifeCenter, GP Knives, BladeHQ, etc.) they'll all have some pocket she...

Re: Delica G10: No Paperwork with Box?

I purchased one new from KnifeCenter back in July 2009. (So unless it had been purchased then returned to KC, I'm the only owner of this knife.) I keep all the packaging for my knives, and mine does not have any paperwork. Just the knife, box, thin piece of black foam, and bubble-wrap "envelope...

Re: Flat Earthers: Growing In Numbers

Both Roald Amundsen and Robert Falcon Scott made it to the South Pole long before any 1959 treaty. They had plenty of difficulties, but there were no "ice walls" keeping them from falling off the edge of the earth. Plenty of people have gone to the pole since then. For example, Edmund Hill...

Re: Models you'd like to see return.

An odd one: I'd like to see the Schempp Equilibrium return. But not in the original form, because I really don't like stainless handles, so either in G10 or FRN. And I realize that would require a new lock, which means it'd require a complete redesign. So I know this isn't likely to happen, but that...

A rescue model might be interesting with a full Spyderedge. They've already done that -- twice: S30/G10: https://www.spyderco.com/catalog/details/C94GOR2/UK-Penknife-Rescue-Orange/435 GIN1/FRN: https://www.spyderco.com/catalog/details.php?product=475 But I doubt anyone would complain if they brough...

More of Mike Janich (and others):

These were done in response to the COVID pandemic, so some of the info in the earlier videos might be dated now. But the final video about riots has nothing to do with COVID and has lots of practical advice.

Re: Would anyone else like to see the Delica get a forward finger choir?

Try the Byrd Harrier 2. It is just a tiny bit bigger than a Delica, but not by much. I posted a comparison pic of it between a Delica and PM2 here: https://forum.spyderco.com/viewtopic.php?p=1352576#p1352576 Plus, the H2 is available with G10 handles (as well as FRN) which is something else that fre...

Re: Using folders unlocked

... I've even used the military as a cigar cutter by putting the cigar in the last swell of the handle and closing the blade on it. ... The Assist Rescue is specifically designed to cut cord the same way. So that's a use case where the knife is actually designed to be used with the blade unlocked.

Re: Mystery DLT Exclusive

If you saw someone like that prowling around your yard, what would you do? You'd call the police. So my guess is it's a dealer exclusive Police. It'd be awesome to see a Police in the black Cruwear/OD green FRN combo they did on the Delica and Dragonfly. They're all made in Seki, so it's at least th...

Re: Could this possibly be the first thumb stud opening knife?

It was not a dumb question at all. As the old saying goes: The only dumb question is the one you don't ask. The history of knives is very long and complicated. Like I said, I'm definitely not an expert in any of this stuff. I just happened to remember seeing that style blade before from some other r...

Re: Could this possibly be the first thumb stud opening knife?

Not the first by a long shot... I'm definitely not a military knife expert, but a while back I was researching a WWII era bayonet I've got and found a lot of info about folding knives issued to various militaries in WWII and WWI. Here's a thread that shows some knives issued to British and Commonwea...

Although he did not invent it, Al Mar was probably the first to use the "Front Lock" in a production knife. Mar's first knives came out in 1979, a couple years before the first Spyderco knife. There's a 1979 Al Mar catalog here that has some text about the Front Lock: https://archive.org/d...

Re: If you could, would you go back in time?

Many years ago, I read a book ("Rewind" by Ken Grimwood) that explores some of these ideas: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Replay_%28Grimwood_novel%29 The novel tells of a 43-year-old man who dies and wakes up back in 1963 in his 18-year-old body. He relives his life with all his memories o...

The upcoming Swick models will kind of fill this role. They might be a little bigger than some would want for a neck knife though.

Re: Traditional Pocket Knives - what are my options?

LionSteel has the "BestMan" line of traditionals, although it's only a few models. They're really "neo-traditionals" since they use modern materials such as m390 steel and carbon fiber. I don't have first-hand experience with them, so I don't know how good or bad the build qualit...

Re: Is it time for an E5/D5?

So, if many here feel like a smooth handle profile, deep cary clip and choil are needed innovations in a Delica/Endura sized folder, then shouldn't you just be asking to have an FRN Caly 3/3.5 that runs in parallel to the Delica family? I, and quite a few others here *don't* want a completely chang...

How much do you guys pay for fuel? I almost fell off my chair when I saw 19mpg. I paid £1.24/litre yesterday, which I reckon is $7.82/gal. Fuel prices in the USA can vary a lot, due to state taxes. Here's a good resource: https://gasprices.aaa.com/state-gas-price-averages/ Another oddity is that de...

Re: Lanyard/Fob Preferences

Depends on the model. I have a short lanyard on a Dragonfly to extend the handle a bit. It's not absolutely needed, but I figure it doesn't hurt. And I have blaze orange lanyards on knives I use outdoors. Hopefully that will make them easier to find if I drop them somewhere. (These knives all have b...
