Re: I started physical therapy

Congrats on the progress, Doc! I'm currently writing from bed, possibly looking forward to my own round of PT after dropping my motorcycle on my underprotected foot, and I have a renewed appreciation for the work that goes into recovery. The human body is amazing in what it can recover from, and I n...

Re: C46 Hap40 Lum Sprint run touch up and spa.. at Golden?

I don't know if what you're looking for is even possible. The thing about those lamination lines is that the angles are so low that they really amplify any imperfections in flatness and straightness of the heat treated steel. You could have a perfect grind profile, but those lines might not be perfe...

Re: Favourite method to open PM2?

I still don't know how you guys flick with anything other than your thumb. I don't think my hands are the right shape because I just can't get it to work. I'm a habitual thumb flicker, but with the PM2 I also sometimes like to open the lock and wrist flick it open. It's a complex motion to make sure...

Re: Stretch 2 Saber Grind BD1N G-10 Diamond Weave

I'm not a hunter (yet), but I did have a decent career as a butcher, and I'd never want to carve an animal with a saber ground knife. Nor would I expect the knife that I'm using to do the slicing to also chop through bones or joints. I'd much rather carry two purpose-built tools that each do their j...

Re: Stretch 2 Saber Grind BD1N G-10 Diamond Weave

That wouldn't really be a Stretch anymore. What I like about my Spydercos is that they aren't gratuitously overbuilt. I hear you on wanting a fatter handle for comfort and to fit your hand, but for the sake of applying more force, I think what you really need is a different tool. Don't get me wrong,...

Re: Abel Native Exclusive

Going by the rules of English, the anodized scales are then hand painted with the fish pattern. Of course, if anyone is a victim of a post-modern education you can make it mean whatever you want. Yeah, he's probably hand-applying the dye to the anodized surface, "painting" it on. It's jus...

Re: Anyone else here still love the Starmate?

Now I know what to carry today! I lusted after the Starmate for a long time based on design alone. It didn't need a rare steel or some other novelty to catch my eye, just clean lines and a strong, polished blade. Still one of the best blade finishes I've seen. I finally got mine as they were being d...

Re: Abel Native Exclusive

Unlike titanium, anodizing aluminum is not what gives it its color. Anodizing sets up a hard, porous surface that must be subsequently dyed to achieve a color. Here is a little article with a wonderfully soundtracked video at the bottom explaining the difference: https://www.engadget.com/2012/05/31/...

Re: Will the Paramilitary FRN replace the Delica?

How'd you describe the Chaparral LW in that case? ;) I haven't held the LW, but I do have the Raffir Noble and it sticks to my pocket like the Delica does. A real winner for me. I think the Chaparral has a slightly rounder butt, but I think you're on the right track there. If you want to compare so...

Re: Will the Paramilitary FRN replace the Delica?

A bunch have pointed out the thicker blade of the Para 3, but I think even more noticeable is the thicker handle. The compression lock necessitates a thicker handle, which is sort of a feature of the Para 3. It's small, but it's got more to grab on to. The Delica is almost like a blade wrapped in th...

Re: Is ZDP 189 a stainless steel or not?

I'd say it's definitely stainLESS. Better than D2 or even Cruwear, though not quite as good as more traditional stainless steels like S30V or 440C or whatnot. I've never rusted my Stretch (OG dark green FRN), but as one of my favorite culinary folders, it has taken on this super subtle, what I'd cal...

Re: Selling your once grail knife

I haven't been able to sell any knife, let alone one I thought I'd like above all others! As soon as I think about freeing up space in my lil tackle box, I immediately think about the niche that each knife fills and rationalization once again beats acting rationally. The minor inconvenience I'd expe...

Re: Compression Lock Millie?

I just forced myself to put my Millie away cuz it's been hogging all the pocket time for the last month. I'm a bit of a fan. And I'd be all over a compression lock model. Yes, the liner lock works fine, but I work a compression lock so much better. I also feel that compresion locks work better on lo...

Re: DF2 keeps getting more pocket time

I've been having the opposite problem. I usually rotate my knives at least a few times a week, picking up whatever suits my fancy that day, but a couple weeks ago I picked up my Military and it just won't leave me! I thought I was really turning into a 3" max kinda guy because in reality it's m...

Re: Reality-Check please: Are our VG10 Knives slowly poisoning us?

I think a more practical health concern is making sure you clean your knife between sharpening and using it on food. Sure, your body needs iron, but no, your body doesn't want cobalt. Nor does it want chromium or tungsten or vanadium or most of the other things knives are made of. So if you are like...

Re: Do most of us need larger knives?

I find that most of my days require nothing greater than 3". In fact, many days favor or even require smaller knives. I've actually been carrying my Military (Cruwear, of course) for the past couple weeks, and so far I haven't needed the extra length. That all being said, it's still more comfor...

Re: Dragonfly HB Salt Found!-H1 is Amazing

Hah, these things must have a mind of their own. I had one jump out of my pocket at Magic Mountain in Vermont this past winter, who knows where after a 3 foot dump. I hope some lucky patroller found it before the sun got to it, cuz I love that yellow handle! I accidentally left my Pacific outside in...

Re: Calendar contest image collection

Awesome work this year! Such a fun contest and I'm really bummed I couldn't find the time or inspiration this year, but I really love the work from the both the new and familiar faces. I downtroddenly scrolled through the submissions today and came up with a prediction for the final 12. It was reall...
