Re: Coffee in the woods

I want to know what you all prefer to make your brew when you are away from civilization and without electricity. 1. make a fire 2. boil some water, in a small coffee pan / tea kettle 3. add "pan roasted" grinded coffee straight in, and let it boil for a 10sec, just enough to make the wat...

Re: Hiking, survival, all around utility

Welcome to the forum! As far as Finland goes, laws are quite simple. Nothing is allowed to carry, UNLESS you have a valid reason. On your person that is. In your backpack it is fine. So, out and about camping, hiking etc you can carry a fixed blade or a folder no broblems. You "need" it as...

Re: Hawkfly in Action! (Pics)

Got mine today. It's evil green now, I couldn't find my black RIT dye, I just used the green I had laying around. I'm fine with the yellow handles when the knife rides inside my pocket, like Ladybugs. But when I carry clipped, the sight of a yellow handle is a big no-no, no matter how small the knif...

Looking good Vivi! "Whark" ? Wharncliffe always ready knife" :D :D We have had numerous threads about those small Wharnies, but sadly Sal has not yet taken the bait... imho, Ark, or little bit bigger FB would be an ideal wharnie platform. I woudn't mind a folder too, but so far the la...

Re: Seeking a Bowie for classical training

Lucky OP, I bet you had some fun times with Mr Keating! I'm jealous.
I got an el cheapo taiwan made Bowie for training, cost about 20 Usd. Fleabay is full of them. Full tang and all, and takes an "okay-ish" edge.

Re: Street Beat questions

Don't get me wrong, I love both of them, but for me, the finger choil is just not ideal for outdoor uses. Say for whittling I find the handle shape awkward. the steel itself is of course awesome, I like VG10 over S30v...

Yes, that is correct. from the dawn of knives, or should I say Puukko´s. .. almost with no exception, always an insert, wooden, bone, or later plastic.

Re: Street Beat questions

hummmm...no.
Perrin IS a very good knife designer, but those two are not ideal survival or outdoor knives. The handle shape and the blade too, these are SD knives first and foremost. And they are very, very good SD knives. Anything else is just a bonus. And yes, I have both.

Re: Folding Camp Knife Suggestions

Tatanka This. If you want a strong, beefy camp knife for hard use , You can't go any bigger than Tatanka. No, it's not light weight, it will pull your pants down. No, it's not the most convenient slicer either. But it will slice, dice, cut and gut. Not for "ultra-light weight oriented" mi...

Spyderco.com down?

Sorry for posting this here, but I don't know if this is a larger issue that need some attention, or is it just me: When going to Spyderco main page, everything is fine. When trying to open anything else, I get a white page, and this: "ERROR 75: Column 'division' in where clause is ambiguous&qu...

Re: Spyderco prices in Europe exploded !

I've bought all my Spydies from trusted US dealers for years. Even if there's taxes and custom fees etc, it's still cheaper than buying within EU.
