Re: The Golden Liner Lock

I've never dropped a liner lock while closing it. It's not my favorite lock type, but I prefer it to the comp lock and the frame lock, both of which are similar to liner locks but worse in my opinion. Golden makes a great liner lock and I hope they don't become extinct. Fewer choices is a loss for e...

Re: Crazy Deals that are Non Spyderco

Blade HQ currently selling the Benchmade brown auto immunity for $200 (normally 300). Also comes with a free flytanium mini pry bar and an inexpensive Chinese Kershaw (another pry bar?).

If it wasn't the auto, I'd pick one up.

Re: Is there any difference between FRCP and Makrolon?

From what I googled: It's a trademarked trade name for a polycarbonate thermoplastic. It's similar to lexan. It can be completely clear unlike frn. It's used in automotive headlights. Evidently it can be reinforced with glass fibers but isn't by default. To me it sounds closer to frcp than frn, at l...

Re: Chief with compression lock?

You know, this makes me think, I could maybe go for a liner lock in the Chief, even more than a comp lock, but I suppose either not many people like liner locks, or they got a bad rep because of cheap Chinese knives. Sigh... too bad. I would love to see a Golden liner lock of some sort be released....

I'm generally for more variety, but I wouldn't buy one. I prefer back locks.

Re: Odd tang stamp on Manix

Just looked at my manix 2 LW. Mine is dlc, but the text centering (or lack thereof) is similar to yours. It's noticeably closer to the finger choil than the spine on both sides.

I bought mine from the SFO, so I'm relatively certain it's legit.

Re: Maryland knife laws?

I haven't been to Maryland in a while, but there are (or were) some localities with strict knife laws. I seem to remember Ocean city being particularly weird. It was illegal to own, sell or even DISPOSE OF an assisted opening knife. Leaving you no way to obey the law if you owned one when it went in...

Re: Bodacious Discussion

I may be misremembering, but I thought it took a while before the shaman became popular. If I recall, it was a surprise when the early sprints sold out really quickly because the regular model wasn't selling very briskly. I think the shaman's high price kept some folks away but eventually the design...

Re: Bodacious Discussion

I’m assuming the MSRP will be equal to the Shaman, if not higher? I think MSRP is about $350 for the satin version. I love the looks of the knife, but that is crazy high. I stopped chasing the new steels, so S30V is fine, but not at that price. Wow. The satin model is $350 MSRP but the MAP is $245....

Re: Native Chief LW

I am still on the fence about the idea of dying handles, some people seem to have no problems, but others have had it start to rub off over time which is what I'm afraid of. I really don't want it to rub off and stain anything or look worn out as a result of it coming off. I would prefer not to Rit...

In yellow the long thin lines of the chief really make it look like a banana. John Cleese would be proud.

Re: Knife trends you just don't understand?

I don't understand why so many people love the so called multi-tools like victorinox. Who needs such nonsense like can-opener, mini wood-saw, trashy mini-scissors, and so on..? All you need today is a good little knife like a manbug or even a small opinel. We don't live in 1920 anymore. Different s...

Re: Steel similar to Super Blue but tougher?

My theory is that the lower carbide stainless steels are often used in lower quality knives, and thus people associate them with poor design, geometry, or heat treating, none of which is the fault of the actual steel composition. pretty much this. Kershaw for example has horrible steel in even the ...
