There really isn't a functional penalty because weight and traction is negligible. In theory some could aid in blade play reduction. The biggest downfall is price as it can be easily measured. Really for a Manbug is tactical a consideration? ;) Unessesary weight and decreased traction, is unessesar...

That's only true if you think of a knife as "just a tool". If, on the other hand, you consider it as "functional jewelry" then bolsters most certainly can have functional value since they make the knife more attractive, at least when properly done. IDK. I can see bolsters on a C...

I'm not meaning to sound jealous, (even though I completely am!), ;) . But how do you keep getting these knives so far before thier release date? I noticed there isn't a CC# on it, so I would have to assume you're not a collector...

Bolsters scratch easy, and besides that, they have no functional value, and add weight.

G-10 Jester Sprint

Anybody know when we can expect to see the Jester Sprint? I know Deacon is getting his soon, but GP Knives says it probably won't be until the second quarter of 2012. So are the sprints generally released right after they go to Paul, or do they have to go to QC or anything afterwards? Forgive me for...

A failing liner lock is a mechanical failure and safety issue. A worn detent is a wear issue. Not the same. A loose Mili that stays locked won't slip closed and take the end of a finger off. I would argue that a worn detent could easily become a safety issue. After all, nobody wants a knife opening...

So then they DO replace liner locks?!

I shouldn't have to pay $4-500 dollars just to get a liner lock warrantied (considering i didn't do anything abusive to the knife in question,)

My Ti Millie is already more than 60% across from normal use. It is a Ti model without the steel insert. I don't feel it is unsafe but I do feel like it has worn rather quickly from only one year of use.I plan on sending it in for them to check it. I thought the consensus was that Spyderco doesn't ...

Everything in this thread is exactly why I am really trying to stay away from liner/frame locks from now on. The detent ball in one of my orange Militaries flattened in about 6 months. I sent it in and got it back with a letter saying it's within spec. The liner lock itself is fine but the detent su...

Anybody know what the purpose of bolsters are, especially on a knife this small? I think I would have prefered just two slabs of G-10.

The orange is still a few months out. We’re planning plain edge on both Sprints. The second run will be Carbon Fiber but most likely won’t come until late 2012 and will be the same number of pieces. We did update our engineering for better quality and consistency. Some changes included a blind pin ...

Where'd you get that? A Belgian knifemaker by the name of Jan Dox. His email is jd599729@scarlet.be . Knife is only $50 + 12 in shipping, but he said he would probably have to raise that price some. The blade comes in a very crude form and is by no means polished or even ground perfectly, but the o...
