Re: Civilian vs Matriarch 2 Wave

This is an interesting thread. Since the OP didn't ask for legal advice or opinions on using a knife for self defense, I'll steer clear of that. Plus I think you all have that covered. IMHO, both knives have their merits for this purpose. The Civilian is, I believe, slightly better in a self defense...

I try to get to the range at least once a week when there's no snow on the ground.

Re: Waterway Availability?

Between this and the Bow River, I think there will be a lot of interest in Spyderco fixed blades going forward. It's pretty easy to see why everyone wants the Waterway though. It looks to be a great design in a hot new steel at a good price.

Re: How big is too big?

A lightweight Tatanka would be a great knife and make it easier to carry, assuming one has large enough pockets. I'd think sales might be slow because people tend to think FRN feels cheap. Not what most people want on a large overbuilt folder. But I have been wrong before.

Re: How big is too big?

I occasionally carry the Tatanka. It's a great knife for edc even though it's huge. I think of it as kind of the opposite of a Dragonfly. The Dragonfly cuts like a much larger knife and the Tatanka handles like a much smaller knife. I've never thought it was unwieldy. I think the design of a knife h...

Re: Clear Knife Scales

If they were on a knife that had liners, clear scales could be used like the sweetheart grips on 1911 pistols. Not my cup of tea, but still a neat idea.

Re: Stretch 2 Saber Grind BD1N G-10 Diamond Weave

I've been picturing a Stretch 2/Tatanka hybrid. With a different steel and that sweet diamond weave texture, of course.

Re: Stretch 2 Saber Grind BD1N G-10 Diamond Weave

I do like the idea of a specialized Spyderco for hunting use. In my opinion, the Stretch is as close as Spyderco makes right now. I could go either way on the grind. I'm not sold on BD1N yet. I don't have an opinion on the scales because I don't know what diamond weave G-10 looks like. But I'm inter...

Re: Blade grinds

I'm not going to be much help, but I'll try to explain it to the best of my knowledge until someone else comes along. The ffg does generally cut easier because it has a more gradual taper from edge to spine. I'd imagine that only makes a difference when cutting thicker objects. A saber grind should ...

Re: Wire clip just not for me

I think the wire clip even works well on something the size of the D'Allara 3. I don't know if I'd trust it on anything bigger but it's definitely stronger than most people think. Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing it on more of the lw models.

Re: lego handles...?

I'd much rather step on an frn handle than an actual lego. They have to be the most painful toy to accidentally step on if you get up in the middle of the night for something.

They had metal detectors at the amusement park I went to last summer(not Legoland). The security staff was mostly teenage kids though. It just didn't seem right to me.

The blue boxes from Massdrop are fun. They're the only time I buy something from them. It's like a lottery with no losers. Sometimes you get something you don't exactly want but it gives you a chance to try something different.

Oh. Thanks for the explanation. It's a neat design for a slip joint. They have a unique style that would fit in with the ethnic knives. I don't know that there'd be a big demand for them though.

I'm having trouble understanding how that lock works. More specifically, how one would go about unlocking it. Cold Steel made something similar but theirs had a ring that you pull to unlock it.

Re: Hello, why do you guys like Spyderco?

The Native5 is a great choice. With the G10 scales, it's a nearly perfect knife. I'm sure you'll enjoy it and it'll probably be the first of many.
