Re: Seconds Sale 2020

Thanks vivi and jabba. I did think it was unlikely that Spyderco would knowingly sell a hazardously defective knife - the problem, as araneae says, is the vast range of possible flaws and the the lucky-dip nature of a sale in which imperfect knives were sold without any photo or description. Prices ...

Re: Delica K390

I like everything about the K390 Urban - low weight, low cost, fantastic blade length given the overall dimensions of the knife. Not least, I love the k390 itself because of its gentle accumulation of patina. Really lends the little knife some character. I was always on the lookout for other knives ...

Re: Seconds Sale 2020

How severe are the flaws on these reject knives?
I wouldn't mind a random accidental scratch on a discounted knife but I'd be irked to think I'm getting a bargain, only to become the proud owner of a knife that won't open, or one with a lock like a wet tea bag.

Re: Who of you buys only Spyderco, no other brand knives?

Come on, who can resist the Italians? I have more Fox and Lionsteels than Spydercos - with a few strange Maserins and Vipers thrown in. Even Spyderco loves the Italians - look at the collaborations!

Re: Para 3 Lefty?

I imagine the reason there's no lefty version yet is that every single component of the knife would have to redesigned. No part of the manufacturing process would be like the rest of the Para 3s. You would need lefty blades and lefty locking tab. The bigger deal would be FRN scales... you'd need to ...

no disrespect to whoever it was that invented carbon fibre, but wooden scales transform this knife from a "What?!" to an "Oooh!"

I'm gonna wait for the k390 limited edition... which could take a while.

Re: 1st Impressions Of The New SpyOpera

Aren't bearings mass produced to a standard size or sizes? Surely it's possible to replace them if they get messed up (assuming you can get past the pins)?

Re: What is Mini Bugout Equivalent for Spyderco?

The Native is another super-lightweight FRN folder that is a lot less, uh, visually challenging than the Para 3. It has a backlock but this is easy to manipulate one handed.

Re: Kapara Salt

I like the Kapara's simple wire clip - it works great, while most of the fancy titanium pocket clips I've come across have been needlessly clunky and really little more than an excuse to show off machining skills (and, more often than not, bad design.) Having said that, when I saw Philip Whatsisname...

Just think of it as a backup! Haha
Oh I don't have a real problem with having two Kaparas - it's just they ain't cheap! (Though they feel quite reasonably priced, compared to some FRN knives where I'm not so sure, the Kapara is the priciest knife I ever bought!)

Re: Kapara exclusive or sprint

I'd be devastated to see a micarta Kapara cos I've only just purchased an original in carbon fiber. I don't need two of (despite the Kapara being one of my all time favourite folders) but I know I'd be thinking obsessively about the upgrade until I smashed my piggy bank and counted the coppers.

Doesn't matter what steel it is, if it has the word "China" in big letters on the blade it's going to lose sexiness points.

Re: Sharpening a Knife

Someone mentioned Michael Christy's videos. With all due respect I think this is not a good place to start. The whole whittling-individual-human-hairs thing is pretty weird and over the top for those of us who simply want to get a tomato knife cutting again. I understand that sharpening stuff and ma...

Re: Appeal to bring back the stunning Titanium UK Pocket Knife

Why always titanium?
Aluminium (Google translate: Aluminum) as used on Alox SAKs and various Lionsteel integrals can be a really decent material too. Slabs of it, nicely coloured and textured, would look pretty slick on a UKPK.
