Re: Bob Lum Darn Dao
Is the top edge/swedge sharpened on these? Edit: oh, I see...nope. :( What's stopping you from doing it yourself? Daos are, by definition, single-edged. 'Darn' (or 'Dan') means single, so this is a single single-edged sabre (as opposed to dual wielding sabres). The word is also used for kniv...

Re: Benchmade 940
If you were to only carry one knife on a day where you needed some discretion but didn't quite know what the day would bring (but not a survival scenario), then the 940 is a very good option. I attended a couple of weddings where they needed some help with decorations and whatnot and it just zipped ...

Gayle Bradley2 Yep. This is abbazaba’s photo https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1528/25539031091_917c526be1_h.jpg If you only look at the lower lines of the handle and blade edge, they’re a pretty close match. The 940 is more space efficient and easier to close, while the Gayle Bradley 2 is the better ...

Re: Official 2018 Catalog Discussion
The catalog is the first I've heard that the Hanan is running full stainless steel skeletonized liners. I always thought it'd be titanium framed. This does help avoid any ball bearing/thin washer issues.

Re: Fixed blade handles vs Folder handles
I, too, am in favour of grip-agnostic handles on folders (but not necessarily to the point of being blind to the proportions and constraints of hand mechanics). I believe the level of grip direction and handle thickness should be determined by the pattern's intended usage. An office slicer probably ...

Re: Do you ever wish you only had 1 knife?
I was a one-knife user for a handful of years (PM2, then Techno) before figuring out my usage (and sort of inventing reasons to get more :) ).
Now I run 3: 1 small folder, 1 larger more utility folder, and 1 generalist fixed blade.

This is what I want all reviews to be like, even though I know most people won’t have the time to put in this level of effort. Great job, Uke!

Re: The Advocate - An Official Statement from Spyderco
Pattern being the same, but blade, washers, bearings, and holder all new usually means it's the internal workings that are different. The blade tang where the washers and bearings sit probably needed to be redone (depth? different stop pin config?) to accommodate the new parameters, but the cutting ...

Re: To Those of You That Just Got a Positron ...
I liked it while I had it, but ended up moving it for something else because a flipper office knife was a bit incongruous to my usage. The internal design was beautiful (captured liner lock), but the handle had some weird design choices. 1) the handle was sized and contoured in thickness for a comfo...

Re: Bradley Bowie or...?
I have a Bradley Bowie and it is my first fixed blade, so my feedback context is limited. Further limiting it is that I live in suburban Canada, where I don't really get to put these things through their full paces. What I can say is... - It's pricey for what it is, but I was happy to spend it on a ...

This is so cute! Great work, Ti Rod Tactical!
I had mocked up some options for chopping down the blade, which proved interesting due to the hollow grind. I think you found the path of least resistance (and maximum edge retained).

Haven't seen one I really like yet (0450 was close), but if they ever produce this new Sinkevich design in this build (CF nested linerlock)... yowza.

I just saw your post! My apologies for the long delay. :o That is a stunning piece! I really like the design. Has very nice lines. As you said, this model is an excellent example of blending classic designs with a modern twist. (Enrique Pena is another maker who has nailed this concept beautifully)...

Re: Omg gayle Bradley 2
Yeah, the GB and GB2 are completely different patterns, but with the same material selections and aesthetic. Judging by Mr. Bradley's interviews about the two designs, that was his intention. The first one was purpose-built for Spyderco as a work knife. The GB2 is a custom collaboration of Model 4, ...

Re: Gayle Bradley 2: Strong Detent?
You should get one regardless because it's one of the best value products in Spyderco's lineup. That being said, the detent is not particularly strong. In any case, my GB2 has kicked just about everything out of my pocket to the point where I just sold down to 2 folders. Everyone should try the GB2...

Thanks, SpyderNut! This is what I was hoping for when I we talked about modern traditional folders, and then someone went and made it!
