Re: January Spyderbite Discussion

Bigger bearings and thicker washers are the way to go here.
Not sure why the bearing cage needs to be phosphor bronze though...

Re: Recommendation: companion fixed blade for piggy back

I just unzipped one of those plastic pallet straps like it wasn't there... o___o

Maybe it was just weak... tried a different section with my GB2, and it took two swipes... O________O

I suspect it’d be too small for you, with that beak in the back. Did the Landis come in?

Re: Recommendation: companion fixed blade for piggy back

This came in yesterday afternoon, so I basically got no work done the rest of the day. https://i.imgur.com/jJtLrOB.jpg Album Trying a pocket carry today in the office with the stock sheath, even though it is basically an inch too long for that, on top of my usual pair. I'll take more pictures with t...

This is great!

Now you can do a head to head comparison.

Re: New Brouwer offering?

I'm wondering why deep carry is such an important factor? Is it a concealment issue? I, personally like having purchase to draw from my pocket. Is it a cosmetic issue? Speaking only on my own behalf here: The context in which I would carry a knife this size is one I’d prefer have a ‘quieter’ look. ...

Re: Recommendation: companion fixed blade for piggy back

My personal feelings on stock thickness is that most fixed blade knives are thicker than they need to be. I imagine the convex edge combined with 3V is going to be impressive for its thickness. Please report back on how well it handles lateral strain while wood working. Im sure my uses never push a...

Obligatory pics when it shows up. I don't have large hands and I rarely, if ever, use the hammer grip.

Re: Recommendation: companion fixed blade for piggy back

Can't argue with that. What scale option did you go with? Just found a standard black canvas micarta one (in 3V) that was readily available for order. What I'm most curious about is how a knife this size fits in my pocket with the sheath, and how 3V in this blade stock (0.09") handles wood wor...

Yes. Though it was marginal vs M4 and 10V.

Re: Recommendation: companion fixed blade for piggy back

So I ran some of the options past my wife and she picked the Featherweight Fox River.
Anytime you get some sort of knife buying endorsement, you take it and run.

3V vs 4V (64 HRC!)

Not really scientific, but it's a head to head to head comparison between 4V, 10V, and M4 with knives from the same maker using the same profile (and presumably geometry)

Yes, I wondered the same thing. I also wouldn't mind it as a liner lock/compression lock, rather than RIL.

Re: Spyderco Knives at 2018 SHOT Show with Eric Glesser

The BladeHQ video has more of the fun stuff!

The Amalgam and Brouwer look related, and both came from Spyderco fans looking to keep what Spyderco was known for and good at, and then refining it into more pocket friendly shape.

Re: Recommendation: companion fixed blade for piggy back

Ive been loving it. I have not done any hard use with it yet. I have only used it for slicing at this point and its been great. I will say, if you have large hands you might not like how the handle fits. I wear a size large in leather work gloves, I get 3 fingers with room or 4 fingers tight fit on...

I'm learning as much as I can about the Blind Horse/Battle Horse/LT Wright knives.
Not sure how I feel about the broomstick design yet, but I see the appeal. Coke bottle handles are attractive to me, but they're going to be hit or miss in hand.

Re: 2018 Spyderco Knives by Eric Glesser

Likes! Slimmer closed profiles in general The Brouwer contains a lot of the elements I like in one neat package! A wire clip coming off the final standoff would put this over the edge. Comp lock flippers every where! In general, this is not a very traditional Spyderco lineup of new knives but it is ...
