Re: Official Sliverax Discussion Thread
Can someone measure the thickness at the top off the edge bevel, and the angle if possible? Mine is ~0.015" bte, 15° per side. Not crazy thin, but not bad at all either. That is really thin for a production knife of this size these days. Evil D seems to have a thicker example. There are always...

Re: Official Sliverax Discussion Thread
Can someone measure the thickness at the top off the edge bevel, and the angle if possible? Looks like a nice slicer, but you never know until you see it in person and take some calipers to it. Looks like normal freehand will work fine on it, but using an edge pro or a clamp system may not be easy w...

Re: Official Sliverax Discussion Thread
I spoke to someone at Blade HQ and he said that there are both washers and bearings in there. So I’m not sure how similar or different it is from the other Spyderco flippers, we will probably have to wait for the first person to take one apart to post some pictures.

Re: Official Sliverax Discussion Thread
Does the production knife have bearings? I don’t see anything on any of the website descriptions saying the knife has bearings.

Re: Love the M4
CPM M4 is one of my favorites. I have a few that I’ve had ground thinner as in .005”-.007”, including my Bradley 1, Para 2, and Ti Millie. Thin M4 makes for really nice cutting a very quick resharpening.

Re: Any update on the Police 4 K390?
I got to use and sharpen my Police 4 in the last few days. The factory edge was not very sharp, and about .025” at the top of the bevel. About 15 degrees per side along most of the edge, then it got to probably near 30 degrees per side at the tip. It cut like you would expect a fairly dull knife wit...

Re: Any update on the Police 4 K390?
I have a Phil Wilson or two that has edges like that but I have gone back to slightly thicker edges at 30 degrees inclusive. When I do my job properly the knife is sharp enough for my purposes. I rethought things when I came across a factory folder with a 55 degree inclusive edge that shaved hair a...

Re: Any update on the Police 4 K390?
The edge appears to be around .025" on the Police 4 that showed up at my door. Thicker than I like, but I'll likely have Big Chris bring it way down and make the tip fully pointy. Mike, did you get some time with this steel when it came out in a mule? I don't know what the hardness is but if a...

Re: Bloomington Gun and Knife show
The Superleaf and Superhawk are probably my two favorite knives ergonomics wise. They are very secure in hand, and the wire clip doesn't cause any hot spots when cutting.

Re: Gayle Bradley - 5 Year review
Great review. Mine has seen a fair amount of use. I had it reground by Tom Krein into the .007"-.008" range to thin it out into the slicer range of thickness.

Re: Is it worth stropping Spydies? ... and something about Sharpmaker hard stones
I use microbevels on all of my knives. I do use the high angle passes and crossing the scratch pattern to minimize burrs before the microbevel, but the microbevel itself helps to cut off any leftover burr. When I manage to never for the burr in the first place that is ideal, but if I overgrind I hav...

Re: Is it worth stropping Spydies? ... and something about Sharpmaker hard stones
For me the moment of clarity regarding removing burrs on a stone was Jeff Clark's method of using a couple very light high angle passes to cleanly cut the burr off. You do those high angle passes, then back sharpen at the angle you were using for the Apex with 5-10 passes per side to remove the tiny...

Re: Is it worth stropping Spydies? ... and something about Sharpmaker hard stones
... Sharpening / stropping on a compressible medium, such as a mousepad and sandpaper rig, or a leather strop, will give you different results than a stone. Those results aren't inheritly better or worse, but they are different. ... Fair enough a good/valid point. What I was trying to say was that ...

Re: Is it worth stropping Spydies? ... and something about Sharpmaker hard stones
If you do a lot of push cutting, like cutting on wood, then a polished edge is your friend. It will push cut better and longer than a toothy edge. Stropping can be effective in getting a more polished edge. The problem with the vast majority of stropped edges is that they get overstropped and the ed...

Re: Cru-Ware, Maxamet???
Its the wear resistance I cant get over. s35vn holds an edge longer and is just as easy to sharpen in my experience. I believe in the old 52100 thread where Sal asked what hardness to run it you said that you love 52100. It has far less wear resistance than Cruwear, along with less corrosion resist...

Re: Cruwear Millie abuse (graphic content)
I really want to see a pic of the knife blade, and how much it was actually stained/rusted by this exciting adventure. Here ya go. Not bad given that level of exposure. Honestly, Cruwear is not that far below s30v in corrosion resistance. It is a little more prone to pitting but I find it much clos...

Re: What Spyderco is in your pocket today??
Going to carry my Cruwear CF Manix 2 tomorrow. Just layed in a 9 degree bevel with a 12 degree microbevel. I went 320 grit Glasstone at 9 degrees, then 10 light passes with the 500 grit Glasstone at 11 degrees, then about 5 very light passes with the 16000 grit Glasstone at 12 degrees. It shaves abo...
