Re: Sawzall blades - regrind into cheap knife blades?

I've never ground a sawzall blade down to make a knife. They may lack the thickness and hardness you would need for a good knife blade.

Re: Help! Any Retailers Using PayPal?

The truth is, I spent a ton of money on martial arts and military books by Fairbairn and Applegate, but by next month the PayPal balance will be close...I'd like to get my second Province. Then I need two boltaron sheaths. Do you happen to have a Smatchet? I keep thinking about getting a custom Sma...

National Knives. You can buy from them via eBay, too, if you're inclined that way, which has Paypal integrated. I've bought way too many knives from them with zero issues. https://www.nationalknives.com/spyderco-province-fb45gp-fixed-blade-knife-plain-edge-blade-black-g-10-handle-sheath/ The truth ...

Help! Any Retailers Using PayPal?

I'll have funds in my PayPal account to buy another Spyderco Province within another month or so...but a lot of the retailers quit accepting PayPal.

Does anyone know of a Spyderco retailer that still accepts PayPal?

Re: iPad cable

I'm not an expert in cell phones, but if it is USB data that you are transferring there is a limit to cord length for USB and other similar technologies. I do not know what the limit may be for tethering....it's a timing issue, and it may be 6ft. Check FRY'S ELECTRONICS. If it's just a charge you're...

Re: Why Do People Hate Knives?

It’s many, many years since I fenced, but the only matches I ever felt like a real winner were on the basis of out-and-out aggression. In 2002, I was in Stockton, CA, at a first meeting with Bahala Na. It was quickly fading in to evening...say 8PM or later, and we were all (the top 10 to 15 guys in...

Re: Province users' opinions

I have not used my Province yet. I am going to buy a 2nd one and sharpen the top swedge. I know of a handful of meatpacking companies in Chicago and I was wondering if they'd let me try the knives on them. I think 4 thrusts and 4 cuts, and I'd have a general idea on how they work on meat/bones.

Good stuff, Shawn. Many thanks, (again), to you and Larrin for edumucating us reprobates.
Thanks Elliott, I'm happy folks like yourself appreciate the time and work that goes into something like this.

Buy your friends and family members Spyderco knives for Christmas and Birthdays. One by one we can change the thinking of intelligent Americans.
Sounds like a great idea! I'll try to do that this Christmas.

Re: Why Do People Hate Knives?

Jim, I went through the same thing for the most part. Never had any formal martial arts training other than what I had in the Military. Same with knife training. Like yours I also had a training knife and the other guy was a martial arts guy, black belt.... Had a pretty big head too from what I rem...

Re: Why Do People Hate Knives?

I can tell you I'd rather have a baseball bat or a golf club than a knife if I ever got into a fight for my life. I get a similar reaction every so often, but people around here are actually very good for the most part. I have a Spyderco in my RFP, and my Leatherman Skeletool in my LFP (Also looks ...

Re: First time you saw a Sypderco?

In almost everything that I take up, I study fist. For edged tools, I started reading and lurking at all of the forums that I did not have to join. I also got a Blade Magazine subscription. Then I discovered Knife Center's "Find It" tab that allows you to search via an attribute. I poured ...

If my province is an example, then 4v does not have the corossion resistance of cruwear.
Which ever has the best edge retention then, I vote for. They can always DLC coat it too.

Re: Form vs. Function

Both matter to me, but I place much more value on function. What you have to remember is that some (like myself) seek the ability to thrust and cut/slice. If one of those elements is missing or not represented, then the knife will be passed by. After thrust and cut/slice ability is found to be there...
