Re: Opinions on .380 for my wife
.380 (9x17) is a capable round, certain ammo being on par with the 9mm (9x19). Terminal ballistics data is available, as well as data related to percentage shot vs percent incapacitated/killed. In the latter, I believe that only shots where the attacker was incapacitated immediately are tallied. He...

Re: Opinions on .380 for my wife
Went thru a similar evolution with my wife. She is petite but can easily and accurately shoot a .45 ACP or 9mm, she just has a little trouble racking the slide. Because of that she carries a Ruger LCR or a Colt Detective Special, 5 or 6 shots respectively. Recently I picked up a purple Ruger LC9s th...

Re: Forged in Fire TV show
I'm sure a lot of people here would say that the tests don't reflect real life but I enjoy seeing them just the same... I too enjoy the show. I agree on the testing is OK but it fits more into making a television show. good visuals than actual knife testing. After testing I do like the smiling resp...

Re: Facebook is the WORST!!
It's a great way to keep with friends and family that live across the country and around the world. It's fairly easy to avoid trolls and drama with settings, but frankly it's pretty easy to ignore the drama and nonsense. I happen to like discussing politics so that works for me too. There is a also ...

Re: Anybody got a Knife?
Doc I agree, if it has an edge, runs on gasoline or gunpowder, the answer is always no. One of my sons learned this lesson the hard way recently. A fellow at work asked to use is knife. He asked the fellow what he was going to cut and the response was, "Plastic." A few seconds later he hea...

Re: Social Networking = Sadness?
Sadness is part of life, a sexully transmitted terminal disease. Facebook is a great way to keep up with family and friends as well as people that have a common interest, e.g., Spyderco. True, there are Facebook users that just cannot mind their own business and those cannot avoid drama and indeed s...

Re: How often do you clean your sharpmaker rods/sharpening stones?
I use Bar Keepers Friend or Bon Ami cleanser. They both use softer abrasives, feldspar and eggshells respectively, and make quick work of cleaning the Sharpmaker rods.

Re: What a relief!
Oh man, talk about visiting someone's house and telling them how to live their lives. Some people never learn any manners, I'm sure this person will someday suffer the consequences of their big mouth. Too bad we can't be there to cheer on their aggressor. :D
Thank you for letting me know.

My nomination is the Leaf Storm, I know I'm in a minority here, it is a great looking knife, but I always worried about my index finger contacting the edge of the blade.

Re: Worst Spyderco Designs?
Ed Schempp Balance 1.jpg ][attachment=0]3.jpg I disagree, on the Balance. It's the perfect gentleman's knife. I have gifted several and all are much used and appreciated. It may be strange looking to some knife aficionados, but the balanced appearance itself is very, well, balanced. The knife funct...

Re: Is this okay or disrespectful to people?
What would compel one to change another person's name? IMO, it's a form of disrespect. Now if you have a name that is difficult to pronounce or prone to mispronunciation, that is another matter. In that case do maintain a sense of humor and don't get upset when the likely happens. Nicknames, totally...

I saw a tweet this morning. :D
I suspect the (excellent) parents had some involvement in having Owen write the letter and making sure the letter was legible.

Re: Anti-gun nonsense
I live in a town that had a mass school shooting. I am not sure that laws will eliminate these types of events, but I would gladly accept restrictions if it means a few people's sons/daughters come home and the end of the day. These horrible tragedies occur because there are mentally infirm people ...

Re: Anti-gun nonsense
Australia just converted their, "gun problem" into an underground submachine gun manufacturing problem for criminals and a total loss of freedom for law abiding gun owners. Excellent point about 30 years ago. The non islamic related shooters get off on their fifteen minutes of fame. The sh...
