K390 was the edge retention mule king in my stable, but maxamet has by far taken over that crown.
For toughness, it's a toss up between the 4's.

I thought over heating while grinding the edge should anneal it, making it soft. I've done this myself.
What about too thin an edge during heat treat?

Sage 1, M4 or maxamet, black G10, solid clip. I'll take care of the rest.

Most likely.

My exact scenario isn't listed, but chose the closest one.

It was the same issue someone else posted, who said they had a negative experience. Charlynn was very friendly and helpful to me.

Try first without disassembling. Just flush the area with wd40 if you're afraid of water.

So far all I've done to mine is wipe it off, with an occasional rinse and dry.
No oil, no rust, and you have to look hard to see the patina.

Mine are T42 and M35, but no one produces those.
The proven ones that have been produced are M2 and M4.
The unproven ones are K390 and Maxamet.
I'm currently carrying the unproven ones, until they are, or not.

Since metal shaving was brought up, thought I'd include glass scratching as something else that sets it apart from most other steels. What other steels have you/others tried scratching glass with? Every steel I've ever used? Maybe easier to list the ones I haven't, but here's some... 440c, ats34, 1...
