You're right. I heard "Hitachi" many years ago and it seemed right since Spyderco used other Hitachi steels. I never heard anything contrary until your post. Sorry for spreading misinformation.

Re: New National Sales Tax Bill Introduced: What are Affects

The point about Amazon strong-arming states illustrates why some national standards are in the best interests of all states. Granted, that Amazon is now throwing in the towel because the game is lost, but big companies demanding "kickbacks" for state and local governments in order to locat...

Re: Spydies going up in price?

When this topic has come up in the past currency fluctuations has usually been a bigger issue than inflation per se. The Paramilitary is the worst example as the rollout of the Para 2 was part of an experiment to see if cutting the margin would be made up for in sales volume. To say that this experi...

Re: New National Sales Tax Bill Introduced: What are Affects

I was going to make the same point Paul did. The whole effect will be bad for mom & pop online companies and good for mom & pop brick and mortar companies. Larger companies will spend an extra couple hours a month after the computer tells you what you owe to whom. I speak as one who filed sa...

When I refer to listserves I used to belong to I'm not sure if anyone knows what I'm talking about. Don't miss the old net per se.

I've always wanted to go to one of these but have never made it and won't this year either. Good luck to those that will attend.

"jack of all trades" would have to be the Bushcraft. My personal favorite is the Temperance 2.

Re: Pacifism?

I agree with Mastiff.

An interesting discussion, but it involves a number of icons of religious history and is also quite complicated. For instance though Franklin quarreled mightily with the Quakers over pacifism, at that time the Quakers had their own military academy.

Re: Why are most folders concave/hollow ground?

The main answer, according to a number of knife makers I've talked to was hinted at by EvilD but goes beyond and is related to being thin behind the edge. Most humans for most of history have been lucky to afford a single good knife. Working intensively with a single knife means that it must be resh...

Re: What makes the Southard better than almost any other kni

The Southard and the Forum Native were the only two knives I bought last year and it has become my favorite. Let me add a few points to Evil D's. I usually park mine in my back pocket, but when in the front picket it takes up less space than my other Spydercos. The tip works as well as my Paramilita...

Re: FB14P4 – Swick 4 Leaf with Sheath

So the original post is saying that the Swick 4 will have a bigger index hole than previous versions? If it's close to Caspian size I'm interested. "The Swick 4’s enhanced finger-hole design is larger and is complemented by jimping (textured grooves) on the thumb ramp to further enhance grip c...

Longer edges cut through thicker rope in a single slice and hold their sharpness longer due to the work being distributed. Similarly, cutting bread, cheese, apples, etc cuts quicker and more neatly. The Military in particular is so light that I often use the tip while gripping the blade.
