Bead Blasting

Many metal shops have bead blasting cabinets. I would advise against it unless you have a tactical need to not have reflections. Beadblasting increases the surface area and provides lots of nooks and crannies for salt and moisture. The end result is rust. The Spydercard is beadblasted and it is the ...

Atr

The ATR is a great knife. I held off getting one until the price went down. I Froogled, (http://www.froogle.com), it and found a plain-edge one for $82 n.i.b. I really enjoy the ergonomics as well as the fit and finish. This is really a fantastic underappreciated knife. spyderwa Rare Spyd...

website fluff

As I looked over the website I noticed that they had tons of knives that I am sure that they don't have in stock. The T-Mag as an example. They don't have in-stock listings. Fishy?

higonokami

You can see some elements of the blade shape in the Jester and ATR but as far as I know there is no Spyderco version of the Higonokami style knife. The model # listed at this site doesn't look like a Spyderco cat #. Mistake maybe?

Ohyasuya

I have visited the Ohyasuya store which is called "The Edge" in Tokyo twice. It is a very hard to find store up a few flights of stairs. Even though it is not very big, it has a lot of knives including quite a few from the U.S. I have also purchased from them online. As is usually the case...

G. Sakai

G. Sakai is actually Gerber Sakai. They originally made knives for Gerber thus the name. They have made many knives for Spyderco as well as many other companies. Their products are very high quality. One of the negotiating points when a company like Spyderco wants to deal with a Japanese factory has...

Sale

Just got back home. Woke up at 4:30 am. Drove for 2.5 hours. Was at the sale at 7:30-8:00. Ended up going into the sale around 10:00 after waiting outside in the line for 2 hours. I did see some Zero Tolerance knive for sale, but not too many. I ended up buying some knives for one of our fellow foru...

Oregon Show

I think that I will try to get there on Friday morning. 2.5-3 hour drive from our area in Washington. I know people line up early, but I don't feel like standing in the cold for hours. If this was a Spyderco event I would probably camp out. Remember on pricing that if list is $100 then cost is $50. ...

Hey everyone. You might want to check out this link that involves Spyderco. Just another example of a company doing the right thing.

Japan Laws

I have been in stores in Japan and Hong Kong that look like the most complete tactical store anywhere. The walls are covered with a mindblowing array of rifles and machine guns. As Ceya mentioned, they were all airsoft pellet guns. Extremely realistic without the U.S. mandated orange barrel tip pain...

Tokyo

As with many things in life there is a difference in what you are allowed to do and what you can do. I was told about the law when I went into a store in Tokyo and the shopkeeper would not let me even handle a knife. He said that foreigners are not allowed to purchase knives there. I really didn't b...

Byrd Factory

Perhaps Sal or one of the other regular posters from Spyderco can clarify this. I believe Spyderco has found two or three makers in China to work with and develop. Buying a foreign company can have many risks, especially in China. What I have heard in the past is that Spyderco will seek out a compan...

Spyderco in Japan

Spyderco uses a number of companies in Seki City. Most of these factories are fairly small by U.S. standards with lots of subcontractors. G. Sakai, Moki, and Hiro are some of the names that have been connected to Spyderco production in the past. When you visit these factories in Japan you will find ...

G. Sakai Knife

This is a knife that is produced at the G. Sakai factory in Seki City. I picked one up for between $20-30 US. It is a liner lock with a 440C blade. It is a very sharp knife with a metal handle like the SS Delicas. Not quite as tight or smooth as a Spyderco but very nice quality for the price. It com...

Spyderco Factory

There is no single Spyderco factory in Seki and there are no buildings that say Spyderco on them. There are a number of knife companies that have been used by Spyderco in the past to make their knives. Some more than others. Most of the companies that have knives made in Japan find a company that is...
