Reviving Sharpmaker Brown (medium) rods
Hi, Since I started using the Sharpmaker I've been cleaning the rods every now and again with household scouring cream which I think is the recommended method. However the brown rods have nevertheless been losing cutting power progressively. It's quite noticeable if I compare either of the two norma...

You should be able to keep the package below 100g, and within the "large letter" size making it £8.35 if your happy with an insured value of £50.

Re: Slipjoints rock!
I had a Kiwi 3 for a while until it chopped the tip of my pinky off during closing. I can understand the desire for some level of close bias, but with that knife once the blade was more than about 2/3 closed it would snap shut like a mouse trap. For that reason if I can't have a lock, I'd just assu...

Re: Slipjoints rock!
I was talking to a dealer at a gun show today and asked him if he had the S110V UKPK. He says that he doesn't carry ANY slipjoints and that the only reason they were made was because of the laws in the UK. I think he's a little crazy, but what do I know? Even over here the legal position is not as ...

Re: Slipjoints rock!
When you are cutting (or the moment you cut through a tough piece of material like double sided cardboard), there is no concern about the blade moving? When actually cutting, the force is holding the blade open. Stabbing cuts maybe, if the point is low like a warncliffe and you judge it wrong. Othe...

Re: Spyderco prices in Europe exploded !
I think a lot of it has to do with currency, a couple of years ago 1 euro = $1,40 and today it's 1 euro = $1,08. As has been mentioned many time on this thread, the change is not to do with exchange rates. The prices have jumped up sharply in UK and Germany even when converting back to USD. For exa...

Re: Spyderco prices in Europe exploded !
If this is due to tax and shipping cost, should not Italy made spydercos be cheaper in Europe then? Im not a tax expert, but should not non USA made knives be taxed at US border when shipped from Japan/Taiwan/etc; or there is an exception for corporations? I can't think how that works, I can only a...

Re: Spyderco prices in Europe exploded !
I can't see that the recent changes can be due to either taxes or shipping, unless for some reason shipping has got hugely expensive suddenly. I would suspect intermediaries in the supply chain as I can't see why else the products should be much more expensive in UK and Germany, compared to France. ...

Re: This is why I don't get the hype for edge retention
Back to the original post, I think that abrasive paper is Silicon Carbide. Do you find that effective on all sorts of steels, with just those grades? I had a try with abrasive papers a long time ago (wood workers will remember the original Scary Sharp article from the mid-90's). To make it work you ...

It's being pre-listed at over twice that price in Europe, around $180.00. Maybe once actual stock arrives it will improve. I'd be holding out for drop point in any case.jdw wrote:$83.97

Re: ZDP-189 Delica 4 - From Sad to Oh My!!!
The edge was, well, terrible. This is something I struggle to understand, given all the posts where people claim shaving sharp out of the box. I only have 5 Spydercos from new, one production, two Sprints and two forum specials. Not one of them came with a usable edge. When I got my first (UKPK) I ...

Wharncliffe puts the point below the centre line of blade and handle, possibly increasing the chance of folding when cutting with the point.
