Re: Mule Team as garden knife (Hori Hori)

If you do use it this way, I'd be very eager to know about your experiences. I have a ZMax, T15, and Magnacut mule. So far only the Magnacut has been used appropriately, and is the only one I'd consider for this kind of work. I've been 'meaning' to handle the others for years now but haven't had the...

Re: Rock Jumper comparison thread + general info

I think the RockJumper would make a fantastic grafting + pruning knife. It has the absolute best hammer grip, and you get maximum power because the edge comes all the way back to your grip. I really get that impression too. I'm feeling sold-ish on it. Now just to decide if it would be better PE or ...

Re: Rock Jumper comparison thread + general info

unfortunately, there is no pacific salt wharnie. i, and others, keep asking though. join our chorus! If they made a Jumper with the same blade as a Pacific I'd probably choose it over the wharnie, and I actually like wharnies a lot so that's saying something. Still, ergonomics are a big one for me ...

Re: Rock Jumper comparison thread + general info

I know this knife is designed for other things, but I'm wondering about its use for outdoors/gardening vs. some others that have been suggested here. I have and love felcos and dozens of other great yard/garden/hiking tools, but there is a real advantage to having a sharp knife on hand for a quick r...

Re: Gayle Bradley 2

i guess i'm in the minority on this, but my gb2's m4 blade is a breeze to sharpen, and stays extremely sharp and bitey forever. i think cosmetic rust/pitting/patina are meaningless, especially for a tool, and one that you intend to maintain moreover, so it doesn't bother me whatsoever. every spyderc...

Re: Hitachi White Steel

there is an astonishing lack of variety in kitchen knife steels, connected to a weird path dependency and conservatism that afficianados, esp of japanese kitchen knives, have baked in. as a result, it's difficult to find kitchen knives in steels that might be 10x better on every measure than the cur...

Re: Para 3 Lovefest, Where Did It Go?

i agree across the board here. it's a fine knife but unless you want a brick of a 'small' knife, you're better off either larger or smaller in my experience which leads me to my problem. i've wanted a chap sun and moon for a long time, more than i need to own two para 3s. but i'm having a very hard ...

Maybe it is already in the works
:shush

Though we wouldn't be able to add it as regular production, but it would make a nice Sprint for those that didn't get a chance to "taste" the design when they were out.

Production K390 Jester

is the most rational, plain business sense thing i have ever proposed here. it'd be hard to believe it's not already in the works it's so reasonable. i know i'm not alone in wanting to see new jesters appear, and this would be a very spicy one to just keep in regular production

https://i.imgur.com/tIAyud4.jpg?1 With both in hand today, I'd say I can't really say that the smooth is any less secure in my hand. I have to agree with CJK. I would suggest soaping up your hands (soap and water mix) a bit and trying to hold onto the knife in cutting, etc. This would give you wors...

Re: Which Cru-Wear to buy?

No problem. You’re welcome. I would consider the Native 5 a design that locks into my hand. It’d be fine in a smooth handle material. IMHO, a smooth handle takes a little more getting used to on something like a Delica/Endela/Endura. You know, that's a good point - if I picture more neutral handles...

Re: Which Cru-Wear to buy?

Is smooth G10 really that bad? Chews up pockets less, I guess. Is it possible to add texture to it (using the right respiratory and skin protection, of course)? smooth G10 is excellent. it feels really good. it looks good. i have the para 3 in this combo, and can say it offers effectively no practi...

What do folks keep in their glove compartment? Serrated for seatbelts? Nothing? A small bug for random packages?

I have a vg10 dragonfly myself but I’ve never used it (since I always have something on me) but it makes me feel better to have it.

A fun graphic with PM T15 making an appearance (which also shows why PM M4 is such a good knife steel):
do you know what "red hardness" represents on that graph? idk the term, but these are interesting data

Re: Sharpmaker enough for M4 or K390?

update. that guy in AUS keeps cutting his saisal rope and Magnacut is biting at the heels of S90V for edge retention, far ahead of M4, which is far ahead of Cruwear, all using Mules. Magnacut's genuinely freakish advance, it seems to me, is its stainlessness in relation to those other two categorie...

Re: Sharpmaker enough for M4 or K390?

update. I don't think I will find anything size of Lil Native in any of those tougher than average steels... Cruwear, Magnacut or M4. So, I'm now back to settling for an approx 3" blade, and that gives me two current options... 1) Magnacut in Native 5 Salt PE at $152, which I'm assuming will b...
