I'm planning on getting both of these, but will probably hold off on the Native 5 until the fluted Ti version comes out... +1 :D This thread and the recent review of the Junior have perked up interest for this big 'medium' knife. The handle of Junior seems similar in form to the Khukuri and that kn...

As I was admiring at these Taichung CF Spydies, I was thinking that it would be great to put the same CF scales on the Zulu, another favorite Spydie from Taichung. The Zulu is about the same size as the Sage, however, its corrugated scales makes it thicker and heavier. Perhaps a Sprint of the Zulu w...

I actually got to put a Spydie to good use in this storm. I needed to pry a sealed cover off a sump hole in order to install a sump pump. (It was sealed as part of a radon system.) Of all my Spydies, I chose a pink Endura because it would be easier to find in case I accidentally dropped it in into t...

@The Deacon - It was good to point out that the Chaparral is noticeably smaller and lighter than the Sage I. (On a side note, the Sage I is much lighter than its size implies, partially thanks to its open back construction.) While these two knives look very similar, I think they serve different purp...

I have to remember that background more often. I just placed the knives on the painted wood surface of a bay window and took some quick snapshots with my iPhone 4. I guess the cloudy day provided the perfect light. Next time I'll align the grain of the blade with the grain of the wood. :) Thanks! Ira

I just remembered I also have a Rock Salt to keep nearby. I hope I won't have to break it in tomorrow.

@DCDesigns - I think that chainsaw beats a Spydie for power, but I'd like to see you flick it open from your pocket. ;)

Stay dry!

S30V and CF goodness from Taichung

So I, like most others on this forum, have been waiting for the Chaparral since it was first announced. The wait was certainly worth it! This knife is the perfect gentlemen's folder and it always will be found in my dress pants. Being thoroughly impressed with my other Taichung Spydie, the Anso Zulu...

Hurricane Knives

As I'm doing my preparation for Hurricane Irene hitting Massachusetts, I'm keeping an Assist I in my back pocket and ATR in my front pocket. What are your hurricane knives?

Ira

An old Delica with the molded clip. I lost it climbing down the cables at Half Dome in Yosemite.

Here are a couple of creative shots of my Spyderco ATR SE, thanks to an iPhone app. It seemed the most appropriate of my knives for this special today.

+1 on the Taichung CF, preferably like the Chaparral CF! I'd prefer a stainless steel though.

Can't believe that no one has mentioned Tom Berry, Catamount on this forum. Now the really good thing about Toms service is that he opens the box & inspects the knife for any defects or flaws before sending it to you. For us who don't live in U.S.A. this is a good, good thing because warranty r...

I noticed the pitting after the knife came back from W&R. To be fair, I've had pretty good experiences with them in the past. I'll reach out to them again with a specific request for repair. I wouldn't be so bothered by this issue if it were with a Delica or Endura; however, it's with one of the...

Yes, the ball detent is pitted. The ball appear to be a separate part of the locking insert. Either the locking insert is holding the ball in place, or the ball could be part of the lockbar itself and is used to help keep the locking insert in place. (I doubt it's the latter as that would imply a mo...

I received my D'fly G10 about a month ago. It really is a 'big' little workhorse of a knife. It's only downside is that it's easy to misplace ;-)

CF Spydies with same textured weave as Chaparral?

I recently received the Chaparral and one of the many things I like about this knife is its textured CF weave. Not only does it look great, it help provides a functional grip. Which other Spydies have similar CF scales? I learned that the Sage I does and have ordered it already. I also handled a CF ...

@DeathBySnooSnoo (great Futurama name, BTW)

I wouldn't try it on my own; however, if this change is possible, I would 'encourage' Spyderco W&R to do it this time.

Thanks,
Ira

Is the ball detent in a Millie Ti/M4 replaceable?

I have a KnifeWorks-exclusive Military Ti/M4 that doesn't open smoothly. I examined the ball detent in the locking insert under magnification and found that it was pitted. However, it also appears that the ball detent is not actually part of the locking locking insert, which leads me to wonder if it...
