Re: Lazy Man breaks down and flattens stones: What about the Sharpmaker?

Pardon my ignorance Rusty, but I am surprised that you were able to flatten diamond stones with aluminium oxide powder? Did you perhaps mean "silicon carbide powder"? Hey, Brock. Thanks for the feedback on dressing Sharpmaker rods. I'll remember this if my rods ever start performing unsat...

Cool space pen. I have one just like it here in my desk. It's old... probably 50 years or so.

Anyone know how much the prices will go up?

They get us hooked with the new catalog, then two weeks later hit us with price increases. We've been hoodwinked, bamboozled, led astray, run amok. With that said, how soon until the next Reveal?

Re: Define the different size categories FOR YOU

I have been advised by police that you basically don't want to carry a knife whose blade is longer than an officer's palm is wide... there's no actual code and so they use that rather inconsistent measure. I can see the discussion going thus: "Ok Barney Fife. Is your body cam on and recording?...

Re: Define the different size categories FOR YOU

How do you define the different sizes for yourself? A "normal" sized knife is going to be in the range of the Manix 2/Endura/Stretch 2 XL. There's a little variation in there to match whatever mood I'm in, but any of those are going to hit the sweet spot. A "large" knife is the ...

Manix 2 LW.
It's a reasonably sized knife: big enough to do anything I need, and not too unwieldy in size or weight.

Re: Community Sharpening Journal

Definitely something that can be explored in more detail to see the differences that different SiC grit sizes can have on performance and wear on the stones. Well as long as you're not telling me it's a dumb idea, I'll put it on my list of things to try out. Or maybe I'll try it out on some other c...

Good on ya. It seems that 2023 treated you well. That's a nice Police... I'm rockin' the stock version today. It wasn't my original intention, but K390 is the best represented steel in my pile o' knives.

Re: Community Sharpening Journal

the high toughness of AlOx, can also be a downfall because it will not break down and self-sharpen with use. AlOx simply goes to dull which further decreasing cutting performance. Dude! This post is particularly timely. Last night I was flattening/restoring some stones, and was pondering my Sharpma...

Re: What Is Going On With The App?

Now if only the Spyderco web page had a post-1990 vintage search engine... Well... yeah... there's that. But the pre-1990 search engine is directly connected to the pre-1990 forum software, so solving a seemingly small problem quickly mushrooms out of proportion. I suppose we should be grateful tha...

Re: What Is Going On With The App?

The app hasn't worked properly in a long, long time. Its last update was three years ago. It seems as if someone thought a Spyderco App would be a good thing, but it turned out that maintaining its functionality was more work than the value the app provided. The Spyderco web page provides much more...

Lazy Man breaks down and flattens stones: What about the Sharpmaker?

It's true. If a chore doesn't excite me, it's liable to get pushed down on the list of priorities. Flattening stones is one of those things. The overwhelming majority of my sharpening is on CGSW diamond matrix stones. They don't dish much, so that's not a problem. When they get dark, I clean them u...

Re: I'm Going All In: Spyder Edge and K390

It's been three months, and my perception of the Spydie Edge has evolved. It's still sub-optimum for culinary work, precise work, and stuff like the leather belt in the above picture. Since serration points sit tall, you either need to do a sawing motion or cut into your back up material. My breadb...
