Re: Very Disappointed

Torx screws are difficult to strip. While I generally agree, this is not always true. I never stripped a screw...until I did. And it wasn't a clip screw (which have never been a problem for me). It was a body screw, actually several on the same Military. This despite firm, perpendicular pressure an...

The Nyala is 58-59. CRK folders are 59-60, the same range as Spyderco.

Re: Steel Testing YouTube Videos

Yes I have heard that carbide tear out is a myth, even with Michael Christy's tests with s110v he had minimal difference in tests when sharpening with softer abrasives as compared to using only diamond stones, I have done no scientific research myself but most people consider it a myth Almost all t...

Carbide tear out would be an interesting topic for Larrin to research and write up.

If New York City, don't walk around with the clip showing. Outside the city is fine.

And pictures in these threads. A loupe probably does not have enough magnification to see it.

Re: Maintaining pm 2 s110v edge with sharp maker

Corners are faster, but more likely to raise a significant bur. I guess I am different from a number of you folks. I try to avoid forming a bur, sharpening evenly from side to side, bringing the apex up to sharpness with a minimal bur if any at all.

Re: Carpet vs. VG10/S110V

Maybe there is a difference but you surpassed the capability of both of them in this test. If you had stopped earlier you might have seen the difference. Old carpet is notoriously hard on edges.

And now K-Plus https://www.knivesplus.com/spyderco-military-rex-45-c36gpbore-sprint-knife.html Of all the places I requested email notification, only GP Knives and Knives Plus actually sent me a notification in real time when they actually had some in stock. I have yet to receive any other notificat...

Re: REX 45 Military In Stock!

Mine arrived. Good centering, lockup, and plenty sharp. But boy I wish they would grind the edge thinner - 0.027-0.028" behind the edge. As soon as I saw the wide bevels I knew that was the case. Plus uneven near the tip. The thick edge takes away some of the benefit of the properties of this s...

I don't think all the shops are adding tax. Bladeops did not, and the other day when I went almost through checkout at BHQ they did not.

Re: REX 45 Military In Stock!

I had email notifications requested from three places so far that have had this Millie but I received none. This has happened before, so I don't rely on them. The only place that has ever sent a useful, real-time notification was K Plus.

Bladeops had some for a few minutes, so with BHQ getting a few it looks like the mail arrived in Utah.

Re: REX 45 Military In Stock!

I’m willing to accept a little maintenance in exchange for what I perceive as outstanding performance. This is where I have ended up. I have been a mostly stainless person for a long time because it is often wet and humid where I live. Then I got some M4. I love the edge it takes, and holds. I also...

Re: Steels: Extreme Edge Strength

I am beginning to think that many steels have sufficient toughness for normal use in folders, and that in the end the edge strength (with hardness as a proxy) makes the difference in how much damage they take.

In the absence of coarse rods, you can clip sandpaper to the rods you have for quicker stock removal, then use the rods alone when you get to the apex.
