Re: RIT dye job on G10 gone wrong

The colour would have been OK, but it looks so 'dirty' with all those variations in darkness and additional hues (orange)

Re: 2015 Spyderco Forum Calendar Winners

Some really cool and 'out of the box' compositions. Congratulations to all winners.

I have missed the contest (could not register), but next year I will give it a try. I love the idea.

Re: RIT dye job on G10 gone wrong

OK, to give you an idea what I am talking about - here are 'before and after' photos. They have been taken some 2 months apart. In the mean time I have not only dyed the handles, but also etched the blades with vinegar (I actually love the way Caly looks with that vinegar etch) Before: https://farm6...

Re: D2 steel

Whether stew will chip or not under given condition will depend heavily on the edge geometry and HT of given steel. My experience with D2 comes from kitchen knives (Yoshikane SLD) and it is seriously great steel. Mind you - it was hardened to about HRC63. At the same hardness the super blue would pr...

Re: RIT dye job on G10 gone wrong

Photos are coming soon.

I did use surgical gloves during the process and the cleaning agent I used contained also some alcohol. I am not sure I will be trying to re-dye the Caly right away, but if I will decide to do that, I will use 97% ethanol to clean the handles.

Re: RIT dye job on G10 gone wrong

Thank you. Indeed - the function of the knife was not lessened in any way. What I would like to know - what could have caused the G10 on my Caly to "refuse" to load the dye. I have seen quite a few well done dye jobs around here on G10 scales. And yes - black is not really my colour. And e...

RIT dye job on G10 gone wrong

Hello, since I got my super blue Draongfly and Caly 3.5 I new I would like to give the handles some colour. I have read around here and quickly found out that with RIT (powder!) dyes it was indeed well possible and all those nice looking results encouraged me to try it myself. So much for the introd...

Re: Finally here!

And just to show how serious I was when I was choosing my first spydercos - I have taken the official images and scaled them to each-other so I could make a direct size comparison. 3rd from the bottom is my multi-tool pocket knife. Do you recognise them all? - just kidding :D When I see this image a...

Re: Finally here!

You guys are just great - it will really be tough to stay with just 2 spy dies :) Paramilitary is a very tempting knife - that are some really cool 3rd party scales and it comes with different steels and has great design. But I do not want to hurry with that. My next knife project after our vacation...

Re: Finally here!

Thank you all for your warm welcome. Yes - it will not be easy to keen number of my Spydercos down to 2, but that it something I would like to sustain (I am not a collector type of person - I have managed to keep the numbers of medium format cameras and kitchen knives down to acceptable level - also...

Finally here!

Hello everyone, I have been waiting since about 2 months for the registration to become available. ln the mean time I have become a happy owner and user of Dragonfly and Caly 3.5 - both is super blue. Both blades have been etched with vinegar and the handles will soon get a dye job. Photos will come...
