Re: S30v

If you are reading this forum, you've probably moved past a knife as simple appliance. And you don't actually need another knife. Not getting rid of any knives I like because they are S30V. And most of my cutting is in the kitchen with VG10. It's fine. I use the super blue one's when I'm in the mood...

Re: Let's bring the Mule back

As much as I like the Mule (have several.. the Maxamet one is amazing) I understand why it's going away. Purpose was to evaluate new steels sharing Spyderco's steel geek enthusiasm with the community. Seemed to generate a lot of buzz for new steels like S110V, K390, and Maxamet. We read all the test...

Re: Real World Anectodal Incidents of Corrosion Resistance

S110V - Went fishing on the Texas coast. Was using my new PM2 in S110V to cut bait. This was night fishing. Got back to the room exhausted and reels, rods, and knives went without even a freshwater rinse. Checkout was that day and for the first and hopefully last time, I left something of value in a...

Re: Starting to buy Spydercos in pairs!

Have only done this a couple of times. Once with the initial green G10 204p PM2 sprint and then the Maxamet mule. No regrets on either. The former allowed me to gift a decent PM2 to a friend's son who had already started building backyard forges at 15. The latter gives me an excuse to get some fancy...

Re: "HRC as advertised." Who is accurately listing HRC?

Some of us read but don't know. That's OK. I'm certainly one of them. We do get excited about super steels and that's what we want. We seek rankings. And tests (which sometimes are quite well done). It's all part of the enthusiasm we have for the hobby. We grew up with some awful steel and now we ha...

Re: looking for custom scale maker

update: Cuscadi is showing on FB that they have Ikuchi scales available. Textured 3D G10 PM3 scales from Cuscadi have been great. No issues with the transaction. Good selection (reference pictures on his FB page) of materials and designs for well established models. Not sure what newer models are av...

Re: M390 CTS-204P 20CV :) Hype Steel

Most of us don't abuse our expensive knives. And folks around here probably sharpen even more than needed. We may not see a practical performance difference between a S35V and S30V. Doesn't mean it's not there. And it doesn't mean we don't want the better one even if we never make a cut where it wou...

Re: M390 CTS-204P 20CV :) Hype Steel

I've had a M390 mule for awhile. It's a good knife. I've had CTS-204P Para 2's for awhile as well as a Bradley flipper. Also good knives. I've had a Maxamet mule since it came out. Followed by a Para 3 and Native. Absolutely amazing stuff. Of course, I use my knives to cut things. Not as a pry bar. ...

Re: When is the PM2 Maxamet Going To Arrive???

I have a Maxamet mule which led to the purchase of a PM3 and Native LW in the same steel. Amazing stuff. If they were to come out with a Military in this model I would certainly purchase one. If they had a sprint PM3 or PM2 in Maxamet, would purchase one of those as well.

Re: Hiking knife

Interesting. And yet when you look at this, LC200N isn't all that high on toughness compared to 3V/4V and A2. https://www.bladehq.com/cat--Best-Knife ... 368#lc200n

I'm not a steel expert by any means and I'm sure your source is better.. but they don't appear to be quite in agreement.

Re: Hiking knife

Hmm.. not seeing where LC200N would be a good choice for anything having to do with wood. It's strength is in it's corrosion resistance. It's not a notably tough steel if you believe the various charts scattered about the web. For a fishing/bait knife particularly in saltwater the Waterway would be ...

Re: Hiking knife

Hiking could mean just normal EDC sorts of things. In which case most choices will work fine. Something in a CPM M4 would be pretty tough as well as giving you the edge holding. If you also seek the ability to build some shelter, hack some wood, and generally be tough on a knife, the upcoming Provin...

Re: My Native 5 Maxamet

Native 5 Maxamet is my EDC. Some don't like back locks. I like them fine. It's light, has a great blade shape and length, sturdy, practical, reasonably priced, and the steel is the best (for my purposes in an EDC) I've seen. Most modern steels will work OK day in and day out. But they don't bring a ...

Re: CTS-BD1N Where does it fit in?

Hmm.. I think CTS BD1 is a much softer steel with ease of sharpening and corrosion resistance but not great edge holding or toughness. I think the nitrogen in BD1N is to allow for much greater hardness which is going to make this something different. The Nexus kitchen knives mentioned earlier are ad...

Re: s30v spyderco's acceptable

If you just want to get some cutting done, S30V is fine. So is 8cr13mov for that matter. However, if you are fascinated with the amazing steels we can have for just a small uptick in price, then you are having more fun than adequacy will offer. If I'm around saltwater, S110V is in my pocket. If not,...

Re: Best Blade Length for Self Defense; And What Do You Carry For This Purpose

It takes a great deal of training to use a knife as a weapon. And a lot of athletic ability. If you have to ask, you should be taking a different approach. If you can't carry a firearm, one of the various sprays would be your first choice.

Re: The Drunken: Amazing Knife, Ruined by its Pocket Clip.

If you cannot figure a way to maneuver that clip away from that scale, perhaps you shouldn't own such a complex knife as this? You could really hurt yourself . . . Of course we can try bending the clip. I tried that after posting and thankfully the clip is thin so I was able to bend it with just my...

Re: Abel Native Exclusive

They have used fish patterns on their reels and tools for many years. Some feel they don't wear as well as their basic anodized colors but they still hold up pretty well. Not sure what the process is but they get a vibrant result and given the harsh environments some of the reels are used in, whatev...
