Re: Soap and water cleaning

Sigh , "stainless steel" does not mean it won't ever rust. The stop pin is stainless steel. It just happened to not be magical stainless steel like H1. To put this on anyone but you is nuts. Look on the bright side: now you know and you won't have that problem in the future. You could blo...

Re: Soap and water cleaning

The "fix," if you can call it that, was lapping compound on a paper towel and a drill. Tuf Glide should hopefully protect it. I do wonder though if contacting spyderco CS would have a positive result. I know they often resist sending out parts but..... You sure lost me on that. What could...

Re: Soap and water cleaning

Well it is what it is. Its a bummer to hear though that this isn't just a fluke, other people have had similar problems. The 20cp run was quite a while ago, so I wonder if the issue has been addressed since. It is certainly beyond silly to make cutlery with component parts and a blade all significan...

Soap and water cleaning

So I've never been a fan of the "no disassembly allowed, soap and water cleaning" strategy advocated by spyderco/this forum. But I've had my Para2 for many years now without taking it apart to service so when today it got some grit in the action I figured what the heck, I'll try this soap ...

I've had more than a few Seto knives, not only the ones distributed by Spyderco. They are excellent knives, some of my favorites actually. Obviously you have to like chef's knives with some carbide volume, and what that entails, but run well and I have no complaints other than their edges coming mil...

Not to knock the sharpmaker, as it does make sharpening more accessible for a lot of people, but you'll just not be able to remove material with it at anything close to the same rate you would with a coarse bench stone. Spyderco's ceramic stones really, even in bench stone form, really are more fini...

As an owner of a blue M390 bento box shop exclusive para2, that looks like the color and texture of that Para2's handles. As said above though, that was an exclusive to Bento in M390, so really no matter how you slice it (pun intended) that isn't a factory knife and I would NOT buy it..... let alone...

I had a Tuff which I consider to have come suffering from lock failure, but NOT because it would disengage from pressure on the spine. The Tuff I got came with a lock bar tension so outrageously high I was unable to disengage it without quite a bit of discomfort. I should note this was not caued by ...

You might consider a chelation agent which will remove the rust, but should carry a lower risk of surface erosion. A product called Evapo-Rust is what I use. It still has some acidity to it, so use care, but it does a good job on my cutlery..... and other things. :)

It was because of a sharpmaker that looked very much like that, albeit much better cared for, which is how I learned of Spyderco. The family lore holds that my father purchased it from presumably Sal who was, at the time, making a snake-oil style live demonstration/sale at some venue. Like a sucker,...

I think part of the problem people have with the Techno is that they, mistakenly, think its for a hammer grip. It clearly is not. While its not super uncomfortable in a hammer grip, it certainly doesn't seem like a fit. By all outward appearances, the knife was designed for a pinch grip. When you gr...

Any difference you'll see between the steels will almost certainly be due to thermal processing and geometry, as those effects are orders of magnitude larger than the effects of the minuscule differences in chemistry.

Its my understanding that, when you're in, any flash gear could potentially be stolen. You might then consider getting him a less expensive knife such as a Resilience so it wouldn't be a calamity if it were lost, stolen, or broken. Alternately, while I'm loathe to recommend a non-spyder on a spyder ...

Are Sal and the crew monitoring this thread and/or taking feedback? I hope so. I bring it up because that blue bar on the dog tag, by eye at least, looks like it'd be perfect to have that channel milled deeper in it (to 23x3mm if they can manage it) so end-line users could just drop a Tritium vial i...

@dancer I understand limited production capacity, which certainly may be an issue, and it is why announcing that the mules are not limited would be a no-cost way to reduce their value to prospectors. That said, these mules go for a fair bit of money even new. A fixed blade in a production run of ove...
