Re: Hey Spyderco!!?? Why Not Try A Conventional Multi-tool?

How about a pair fishing pliers made out of H1? The options out there in the high end aren't great unless you want to spend +$300 on a pair of Titanium Van Staal pliers. Everything else is essentially disposable. I would think an H1 set with braid cutters would grab a descent market share at $150, ...

The really old G10 Militarys only had one liner. They were very light.

For a knife that's never had a version 2, it's sure gone through a lot of revisions.
The single liner carbon fiber one is a featherweight :D

With how much development and CQI the Military has received over the years I don't think I would trust a simple blade swap from a newer model.
This. The early models had slightly thicker blades, so even a blade that isn't from the newest generation might not fit. The newest ones are a no go.

Re: Spyderco Caspian Salt: Bring Back A Sprint Run Please!

It's a great dive knife. It is a pretty mediocre knife for anything else. The straps on the sheath suck (sorry Sal, but they don't work) and need to be replaced with rubber straps before use. Not that many people dive, most of those aren't knife people so sales probably weren't good. Afaik Spyderco ...

Re: Spydie Talk: Q&A, random info, knife chat

I was very happy to see the fine, needle-sharp tip on my Para Military 2. I plan to use it as designed and understanding its advantages and limitations. In my opinion, using a Para Military 2 to “stab” into hard wood, ignoring the possibility that it might damage the tip is to ignore the knife’s li...

Re: Help me choose my first Spydie

A good clean and it should be ok. ZDP isn't the most stainless, but it should work fine. Used my CF/ZPD one for reindeer, elk and moose. Edge holding is very good, but avoid bone and don't apply too much sideways force on the edge. A fixed blade is better in use and either a Mule or Serrata would wo...

Re: Spyderedged Sprint Runs? It's Time Has Come

Good post JD. I know they are going to release the Pacific Salt PE in LC200N. It be nice to see a sprint run in SE LC200N as well before they change the handle. C As you are mentioning the nitrogen based steel LC200N I can't help but wonder if this wouldn't be a good time for a Sprint Run of the Ca...

Re: ELmax?

Pretty happy with it in my LionSpy. Not sure it offers anything very special, but it seems like a well rounded steel with good edge holding and corrosion resistance. I'd rather see LC200N in a Military, but I get dunked in seawater pretty regularly when sailing

Re: Forester Sprint run

Only if the edge angle is half what the original one was run at. I want it to bite into wood when I chop not bounce off. I remember an old thread about the Rock Salt that ended with rippled edges from chopping coconuts. That was with H1. I wonder if that's why it isn't thinner? The forester (and th...

Re: Cost Cutting on Sprderco's Higher End Models, Why?

Hi Sverre, It moves enough to be a problem (tolerances, holes, nested liners, etc.). I'm pushing for a Micarta Shaman at this time. We're machining some handles to test. We'll need some time to test. The problems have come up with Micarta machined in a high humidity environment and shipped to a dry...

Re: Cost Cutting on Sprderco's Higher End Models, Why?

We're testing some now. Micarta moves depending on the humidity. We've had some problems with Micarta in the past. Depending on the results, we'll move or not. sal It moves very little ;) With liners it should matter much? Love the feel of it and how it gets grippy when wet. I'm willing to be a gui...

Re: Chaparral... Liner Lock?

The Chaparral is a great knife. It has been on my list of knives to get for nearly four years, but for one reason or another it hadn't landed in my pocket until this past month. And now that it is... WOW. That said, I wish there was a liner lock version available. I'm no designer, but taking the sa...

Re: Why did the market want heavier knives?

As has been stated, the Native5LW and Manix2LW are both linerless. Also the Manix Backlock and Native5 are both linerless G10 knives. I hope to see similar construction used in models in my desired size range. Some of the first Spydercos I feel in love with were the original Millie, Paramilitary an...
