Re: Battle of the 3" Blades: Delica4, Sage1/5, Native5, Para3, Chaparral
It largely depends on your priorities (slicing, ease of cleaning, carry size, weight, eros, etc). For me, the Chaparral is my pick for dressy edc. It slices like a laser thanks to the extremely thin stock, and carries incredibly well; it's the thinnest of the options, and takes up a tiny amount of p...

Re: Spyderco 2017 Lists: Delivered & Upcoming
This may be better placed in its own thread (and if so, I apologize for the tangent), but has there been any word about the Native 5 S90V fluted CF? I know it was discussed a bit previously (and was mentioned briefly in RamZar's 2016 thread), but I haven't heard anything about it for months.

Re: New Custom Spyderco Slipjoint Design
Whoa, that looks stunning. Excellent design and perfect size/weight for actual use. While a locking version could be nice, given your purpose (food prep) I'd want something with as few moving parts and nooks and crannies to hold grime/juices/etc (making cleanup without disassembly as easy as possibl...

Re: Which one should be next?
Also, keep in mind that the forum knife is obviously a Native 5. If you end up getting one, I'd say maybe consider selling your current Native, and pick up the S35VN PM2 sprint, they pop up fairly often on the secondary market. That way you could get both the PM2 and the Sage. Ooh, also, maybe consi...

Re: Which one should be next?
I would second the recommendation for a PM2. It comes in S30V, has amazing ergos, and by far my favorite lock on any knife (it's so stupidly smooth to both open and close). Be warned: if you're like me, you may not buy another knife for a while once you get a PM2. I had a little growing collection o...

Re: Why not more knives with compression lock?
It's one of my favorites, but I'd honestly rather see more CBBL's or even bolt action locks. They can both be operated in a similarly quick fashion to drop blades shut by gravity, but they're also ambidextrous and allow for a more secure grip on the blade while operating. Bolt action lock FTW. Anyo...

Re: Sharpmaker purchase help
Congrats on finding everything you needed. If you already got the diamond rods, you probably won't ever need the CBN rods. I believe I recall from Cliff's testing that the CBN rods were a similar grit to the diamond ones, they just cut differently (though it has been some months since I read up on t...

Re: Sharpmaker purchase help
I would definitely second what surfingringo said. The CBN (and diamond) rods will have an appreciable effect on your sharpening, particularly the amount of time it takes to bring a dull edge back to shaving sharp. The UF rods, while they're great for getting a scary sharp edge, aren't really necessa...

Re: Sharpmaker purchase help
I bought my CBN rods from gpknives, and it looks like they sell all of the other available rods as well (including medium and fine separate from the standard package). They don't offer them all as one "package" though, if that's what you're going for.

Re: Manix S110V or Military
I'll admit I don't have a Military, so can't speak to that. I do, however, have the Manix 2 LW in S110V and a Para 2 in S30V. The S110V is better than the S30V in just about every metric other than price (edge retention, toughness, corrosion resistance). However, consider whether you will really not...

Re: Mule Team 20 (CTS B70P), my first Mule
That's some beautiful work there. I'm afraid I can't offer much advice on making the handle as I haven't done one myself. However, you may consider using an epoxy over the titebond. While you're right that titebond is great when you're gluing two wood surfaces, I would be concerned about using it to...

Re: Compression Lock Liner Lock
Hi Matt, When I first came up with the idea, Frank Centofante was at Spyderco and we worked out a number of ways to release the lock. The patent also includes using a button as a release as well as a variety of tabs. sal Very interesting Sal. So it's somewhat similar in use to the BM Nak Lock? Whil...

Re: Native 5 Midnight Blue s110v Lightweight
I know this is an old thread, but I wanted to bump it up. Any news on this knife? And can we make any inferences from it's absence from the Mid-Year Supplement? Anyone know whether Spyderco teased the release of the S110V Manix 2 LW in a Yearly or Mid-Year catalog before its release?

Re: Mid-Year Supplement Discussion Thread....
There's no mention here of the Native 5 LW S110V. Am I correct to take this to mean that we shouldn't expect it until 2016, or might they sneak it in? Looking at the other threads regarding this knife, it seemed that its release was imminent. I guess another way to frame the question, when Sal and c...

Re: How do you take care of super blue steel?
If you want to avoid developing a patina, I would definitely recommend oiling. I would also recommend using mineral oil or something else food safe if you're going to use it for food prep, slicing apples, etc. (that's what I use and it works great). I've had some rust spots develop on a few of my kn...
