Re: Chaparral with upgraded steel?
The Chaparral is all about its scales. Let's leave well enough alone.

Re: 2017 - Lightweight/FRN Chaparral
So really when you get down to it, the FRN Chaparral is quite a bit different than the other Chaparral offerings. It's just not "a Chaparral with FRN scales"
There's quite a few differences under the covers. I'm not saying that a good or bad thing, just different.

Re: 2017 - Lightweight/FRN Chaparral
In that 2nd picture, if you place the liner on top and in place, does that depict this knife using the stop-pin? I'd be disappointed to learn the FRN version does not use a stop pin. See the first pic. The liner is in place and is used as a stop for the pin. Thanks, I missed that viewing on my phon...

Re: Chaparral Lightweight - thoughts and pics
I'll keep that sharp unlock bar mechanism. I haven't tried it, but I bet it works well with a fire rod.

Re: Chaparral Lightweight - thoughts and pics
Excellent reviews. This FRN Chaparral has been my most anticipated knife. Mine arrived a few days ago and did not dissappoint.
My only thing I would have liked to see is the FRN scales milled, so the screws would have been countersunk into them, so they we're resting above the scales.

Re: 2017 - Lightweight/FRN Chaparral
I'd not consider mine stiff at all. I like the amount of pressure required to disengage. As far as opening, my CF Chaparral is the smoothest opening knife I've ever owned.

Re: 2017 - Lightweight/FRN Chaparral
Received mine yesterday. I really do like it and it will definitely kick the CF Chaparral out of my pocket on most occasions. I like the extra thinness on this FRN version vs the already thin unit of the CF Chaparral. If there's one thing I would have liked to see done differently, it would be the s...

Re: 2017 - Lightweight/FRN Chaparral
The Chaparral has always been my most favorite offering from Spyderco. No other Spyderco feels as good in my hand and no other looks more esthetically pleasing to the eye to me. I love the fact the the blade doesn't protrude at the hole like the other Spyderco knives.
