Re: MAP policy change? 35%
Bingo. I reckon the "Uncle Sal" fervor is only ever 5% (or 8.3) away from disdain for some people. Really surprised with this, but perhaps it's more of a knee-jerk reaction than anything, and we just need to let the dust settle a little bit. Then again, friendships and money don't tend to...

Re: ZDP 189
I've been hoping to see a ZDP189 Police since 2009 or so, back when the Police 3 came out. I'd buy a ZDP189 Police 4 in a heart beat. IMO the Police 4 needs a run in some sort of stainless steel, why not ZDP189? It'd be that or VG10 I'd imagine. If a man could really dream, peel ply carbon fiber / ...

Re: Future plans for the UKPK?
The UKPK is my absolute favorite EDC knife lately; super light, no liners/minimal hardware, nice thin pointy blade, wire clip that makes the knife completely disappear in pocket, amazing ergos, etc. I don't live in a country with strict knives laws, but I really don't feel I need a lock in smaller E...

Re: Sebenza v. Sage 2 (Fit and Finish)
The F&F and tolerances on a Sebenza aren't so much about how the knife looks from the outside, but how it fits on the inside IMO. The two main reasons CRKs cost what they cost are: - You can take them down, clean them up and reassemble them with no problems whatsoever. If you get a model with th...

Re: I'm going over to Buck
In regards to Spyderco knives, I still haven't found anything I like more for the money. I keep trying other stuff, but I always come back here eventually. I wouldn't be surprised if you did, too. As far as prepping, I wish more people would take the prophylactic approach; vaccination over stockpili...

Re: Catcherman Sprint
I'd be all over a Catcherman sprint with an Endura 3 or 4 style clip, and full PE or SE blade (but especially full PE). That would require a whole new handle. Spyderco would have to design, test, and have $40K worth of new molds made, for a model that has never sold well and doesn't share a handle ...

Re: Catcherman Sprint
I wonder how long it took the USN Catcherman to sell out? Seems like they weren't around for long. I think it took a good while, actually. I remember putting it in my cart on several occasions, but ultimately two things made me decide against buying it, namely the combo edge and the integrated clip...

Really nice mod Vivi. Can you still use the sheath on it?
I think small fixed blades are seriously underrated. I'd be in for something more utility, than self-defence minded.

Re: Sprints and Exclusives Killing Regular Production Models?
Unless the color of the handle is really appealing to me, I actually try to avoid sprints. I prefer to know that I can buy a replacement if I ever break or lose a knife I love. I guess this is market driven, but I hope Spyderco won't let it get too out of hand, as recently seen with a certain tradit...

Re: I Hate Japanese Spydies, Sorry
It's actually: S110V > M390 > CPM-20CV > CTS-204P > S90V > ZDP-189 > S35VN > S30V > VG-10 > CPM 154 > 154CM > 440C > AUS-8 I've found Spyderco's VG-10 to perform at an equivalent level to 154CM or similar steels. I like it quite a lot, it sharpens very easily but holds an edge very well, and I've f...

Re: How about an American fixed blade?
There are several great ideas in this thread, and I would definitely be down for any of the following that were already mentioned: - Shelter Cove - BFK's 5 inch Drop Point Hunter concept - Classic Bowie - Fixed Military with adjusted blade to handle ratio I also like JD's idea of an updated Temperan...

Re: I Hate Japanese Spydies, Sorry
The steel thing is all subjective and Joe is right that stating things as objective facts is not helpful to those trying to learn about steels. As Sal often says, "not better, just different". I love Maxamet and Cruwear and many other steels. I also still really enjoy using good old 1095 ...

Re: I Hate Japanese Spydies, Sorry
I look at Spyderco factories the same way I look at steels; you've got to settle on a combination of properties that fit your personal needs. No steel can have ultimate toughness, wear resistance, edge stability, corrosion resistance, etc., all at the same time, it's always a compromise. Likewise, i...

Re: Crazy deals @ Sierra and other places
The green CTS-204P Military has also been lowered to $174.95 this weekend at KnifeWorks. That is very tempting, because I am absolutely enamoured with the green g10 on the Caly3. Wow, thanks a bunch for the heads up! This couldn't have come at a better time; I had been mulling to buy my first Milli...

I'd be in for a Delica and maybe a Stretch, but I'll go against the grain and hope the run is not done in that Goldenrod color. It looks like bird poo.

Re: What happens when two Yojimbos walk into a bar?
Some nice looking knives... I really wish we'd see a few more options straight from Golden, but I'm guessing the current sales don't justify the Yo2 getting the "Military treatment" quite yet.

Re: "I would buy a new Yojimbo 2 Sprint with....???"
I'd be interested in a LC200N/H1 sprint. Micarta would be nice too, but I doubt we'll ever see that option straight from the factory. Otherwise I'm pretty happy with the Yo2 in its current configuration and doubt I'd feel the need to spend on most color/steel variations. A Lil Yojimbo, on the other ...

Re: Real World BD1 experience?
I'm surprised to read about BD1 being more chippy than VG10. I've been toying with the idea of picking up a Manix LW as a beater and, while I'm not really concerned with edge holding, both toughness and corrosion resistance would be pretty important in this application. Any more input on this? How ...
