Re: Spyderco Stretch in action

Spyderco hasn't made my grail knife yet, but if I were designing it I'd start with the Stretch 1 as the foundation. Ergonomically, dimensionally, and functionally I haven't found better. My grail knife would be a Golden-made backlock with much in common with the Stretch. The blade profile would be m...

Re: Native Chief - Can we get a heartbeat?

The added weight of skeletonized, embedded liners can't be much. There's certainly less steel required than exposed liners. They seem like the perfect balance for the added strength and longevity you get. I'm leaning towards no more knife purchases that don't have embedded liners (unless titanium sc...

Re: Para 2 as EDDC

In FLETC we trained with shock knives. Man, did I ever hate those things. But it's good to help strengthen the aversion to taking hits from the knife. Like Emanuel mentioned, it was drilled into us how we needed to mentally prepare for being cut/stabbed in scenarios involving a knife. Even if you're...

Re: Spyderco Amsterdam Meet 2019 Report

While the Chief is stunning (designed in the dark, my as*!), the Sage 5 LW would get the most use from me. I like that it has nested liners. I've been using a Sage 2 some and like the design. However, I feel it's a tad heavy for a wire clip, so this one should be perfect in that regard. The scales w...

Re: Para 2 as EDDC

As I alluded to before, someone who trains with edged weapons everyday will be able to do things most of us can't. I had exactly your (ZrowsN1s) mindset at one time, and even carried a Spyderco P'Kal while on duty. When I discovered how difficult it would be for me to deploy it while being assaulted...

Re: Para 2 as EDDC

I recently went through a couple of police communication classes. One was outstanding (largely due to the instructor): Predicting Violence & Influencing Outcomes by Calibre Press, instructed by Kelly DeVoll. One takeaway from this was that words can still potentially save your butt even in the m...

Re: Para 2 as EDDC

.... Lesson: If you're going to depend on a knife for self-defense in any capacity, if you don't make it a fixed blade you are deluding yourself. You have to Practice , but you can learn to draw a folder quickly under stress. And not everyone lives where they can carry a fixed blade or gun. Sometim...

Re: Para 2 as EDDC

A few years ago I had to adjust my thinking on the concept of a knife for self defense (in this case as a secondary weapon for uniformed law enforcement) after a training experience. We were using red-handled trainer Spyderco folders. I'd been carrying Spyderco since 1994 and figured I had pleny of ...

Or maybe it will make its way into a round of Seki sprints with solid SRS-15 blades.
I've been away from following Spyderco for a while and this caught my attention. Is SRS15 confirmed in the pipepline or is this wishful thinking on your part?

Re: How exclusive are scale colors for exclusives?

So your best bet for getting what you want, short of fronting the money for en xclusive of your own, might be talking some other dealer, distributor, or other group into having it made as an exclusive for them. Good idea: Calling all Spyderco dealers! Please order up a batch of Native 5's in natura...

Re: Spyderco Stretch in action

That C90PS harkens back to the Pro Venator, which was my first Spyderco purchase in 1994. If I were more of a collector I'd seek one out to kind of bring things full circle for me. I've already got more than enough Stretch's (1st gen) as it is, however.

How exclusive are scale colors for exclusives?

I've been wanting a Native 5 or a Para 3 with natural G10 scales. Problem is, BHQ seems to be the only outfit offering natural G10 exclusives, and they only do it paired with M4 steel. I will never buy another folder with M4, so I'm stuck. I can't be only the only one that is frustrated by vendors t...

Re: Stretch3

What an interesting discussion! The Stretch 2 introduction was the catalyst for a complete revamp of my Spyderco collection. The Stretch 2 doesn't feel great to me, and it made me realize that the ergo's for opening and using the Stretch 1 were the best I'd ever encountered in a Spyderco. I sold all...

Re: M4 Para 3 Jade G10

I've been a fan of natural G10 scales since forever but I'm just not an M4 guy; I can't keep up with the corrosion. I wonder if we'll ever see Para 2/3 jade + stainless?

Re: D'Allara 3 ergonomics opinions

The handle shape and lack of a choil were my favorite design elements of the D'Allara 3 that I owned for a while. My least favorite was not the quirky ball lock but rather the weakness of the wire clip relative to the weight of the knife. I don't stay upright all the time in my line of work (LEO for...

Re: Your last purchase in 2017

A pre-owned Stretch FRN HAP40. It's funny, but in trying out different Spyderco's to find the select few models to best meet my needs (professional and personal), all roads lead back to the Stretch 1. I'm not even enamored with the looks but functionally it's perfect. For a while there I thought the...

Thanks for the photo comparison! I wonder why D'Allara uses a plastic plunger instead of a metal one like the Q-Ball?

I think I now have plunger-envy.

Re: C41GPFGR5 S90V Native 5 KC Exclusive

This N5 version is the most photogenic of the N5's to me, and really one of the most photogenic Spydercos of all time! Yes it beats both fluted N5 versions for me, for sheer looks. Given that the linerless N5 was so well-executed, I trust that the form won't die with this exclusive. A linerless S35V...

Re: D'Allara 3 feedback

Good stuff, thanx. keep it coming. sal As a follow up to my earlier comments on the G10 version, I’ll add that the liner edges on the open side of the handle are sharp to the point of being painful if the knife is held firmly. My other Seki knife with exposed liners, the Stretch CF, is not like tha...
