Re: Sell me the Schempp Bowie...or not

Talking to Ed about that knife, and handling his personal model, was one of the highlights of Blade Show for me. It's not my style, particularly, but it's absolutely a respectable and well-thought-out knife. I think the same thing BUT.... I’ve loved everything Ed ever done, that I’ve had the opport...

K390 Urban. It’s really the only knife I’m using these days

You need to, brother. Like you, I’m a huge M4 fan, but K390? Even better.

Re: Toomzz' patina thread

so far I'm getting a nice soft gray with a few speckles A lot of times when you get to that state, a light scrub with an old toothbrush will form (for lack of a better word) a black slurry. Spread that out as evenly as you can and you’ll get a nice solid black (if that appeals) I’ve done it on Supe...

Re: Toomzz' patina thread

Those are excellent. Like you, I love a nice patina. Some are natural and some I’ve accelerated. My accelerant of choice is white vinegar. Those go a a solid black where the natural ones tend to be mottled grey like your 52100.

Very, very nice!

Of course the fact that he's no longer making them also means there's no chance of getting a new custom one today, at any price. I don’t know, Paul. I take your point ‘any REASONABLE price’ Now I don’t know the man but I gotta believe that if you offered him $15M dollars he would probably find some...

Re: Back After a Few Years... Thoughts on LW Knives.

I generally like linerless LW knives that have under 3" blade length (Dragonfly, Urban, Roadie, Manbug ETC). I'm with you on this. And since my preference has shifted down to smaller blades in general I find these perfect for my needs. Case in point - The K390 Urban hasn’t left my pocket since...

THANK YOU!!! I had the exact same thought.

Re: Bringing my Urban into Israel ?

Can't speak Israeli laws specifically, Marius, but, like you, I LOVE my K390 Urban and I would be very hesitant to take it traveling to any areas I might have issues, including just "loss". Stuff happens when you travel. New places. New routines. Easy to misplace it. I'd leave it home. Not...

Re: Re: Name a Spyderco knife you thought you would like but didn't once you owned it.

My "only" are due to how pocket filling they are. BBLs in Phoenix and D'Allara make them both so wide I just never carry them. I love the action and the grip. In use they are terrific but they're so big in pocket I just never carry either of them. Even the Dodo was too wide. If I was a bel...

I never liked Memory until I bought it under peer pressure from Ken. Thanks Ken My pleasure, Roman. ;) I had the same sort of experience with the CF Balance. No interest in that weird looking tiny knife. Then Paul explained what a great little design it actually is, and he was so right. It immediat...

Re: The Wire Clip: express your love, hate, indifference

Small or very lightweight knives = wire clip Large and heavier knives = hourglass clip or equivalent I love the wire clip but it just doesn't suit larger heavier knives, it doesn't clip strong enough and doesn't provide enough traction. It's absolutely perfect for knives like the Dragonfly though. ...

Re: Maxamet vs. K390 in experience

I sincerely hope that we will see more blade offerings in the Signature Series knives using K390, Maxamet, and PMA11, either in Stocking Releases or Sprint Runs. Agreed. I feel the same way about the LW Urban. It's such a great knife for my needs but I'd totally overlooked it until the K390 release...

Assuming this is some kind of apocalyptic scenario where I have to go on the run and can’t pack anything extra... See, that's the thing, there weren't any caveats or scenario conditions given. My default answer would be based on 'what do I carry all the time now that does anything I need it to in m...

Re: How have you preferences changed over the years?

In some ways yes, years back I preferred short stout blades and usually carried something in the 3" range. for the last couple years my preference has changed to longer blades like the Military, also preferring thinner, slicer grinds/blades. I've been just the opposite. I used to like 3-4"...
