Re: Favorite Steels

CPM M4 is my reference steel right now for all around edge, toughness, ease of sharpening. I just recently got something in Cru-wear and am so far impressed with it as an all around good steel. Pretty hard to beat Maxamet in working edge retention although I certainly find it harder to sharpen than ...

Re: Reputable Online Retailer Sugestions and Experiences Good or Bad

I'm not too far in Canada from SRKnives which is a good brick and mortar place. Their stock levels is typically pretty good.
Online ordering I've used BladeHQ and National Knives. Good experiences from both.

Re: Fixed Blade Friday!

Since we have a Throwback Thursday (I'm too new to participate :( :D ) how about a day where a fixed Spydie gets thrown into the mix? I've tried most days to carry a mule with me along with a variant of para3 or the occasional DF2. I'd love to hear some fixed blade stories from you all. With all th...

Re: Help me decide which spydie to buy next

If you want thinner blade stock, a real slicer then the Chap LW. Thicker blade stock same as your Paramilitary, then get the Para 3 LW which is expected to be out soon.

Re: More on new Spyderco Light Weights: Let's discuss!

OK, I just have to speak my mind. I am not into this lightweight thing at all. Not even a little bit. Of the umpteen Spyderco knives I have, there is one lightweight, a Native 5 Maxamet that I bought mostly because of the steel, but also I sort of caved in to see what an FRN blade is like. Give me ...

Re: Native 5 Maxamet

I've sharpened my Manix lw in Maxamet once. I haven't done my Para3 in Maxamet yet. For me it was a lot of work setting my bevel to 15 dps. It was more like 16 or 17 from the factory but I didn't actually measure it. I use a Wicked Edge system. My knives range currently from S30v, VG10, Superblue, R...

Nothing lasts forever. I believe we still have inventory of older Mule Teams.

I think only #22 and #27 on the website show as in stock. I haven't looked for a while.

Re: Different Tools, Different Steels, Different Angles Different Grits to get your Spydies Blade Factory Fresh

Well now this is interesting, it turns out the Spyderco Brown stone they are calling coarse is anything but coarse. I went ahead and used the 800 Grit WE Pro stone and it is more coarse, then the the 1000 Grit and it is more coarse it was not until I used the 1200 Grit fine ceramic stone that I was...

Re: Native Maxamet

I have a Manix LW in Maxamet that I just sharpened for the first time the other day. I used it during a bunch of gardening last year with the factory edge and it sat on my work bench ever since. Seems to cut forever! I will say I found it one of the hardest I have ever sharpened. Certainly harder to...

Re: Para 3 lightweight anticipation

I prefer the G10 version in all the models I own that I have both in (chap, Manix, paramilitary, para3) . I will still pick up this one in lightweight as I'm interested in the shape of the handle compared to the G10 version.

Manix2 for what you described. I have both but the Manix2 is my shop knife. Very robust.

Re: Para 3 Lightweight Exclusive/Sprint Hopes

I replied earlier that I'd like to see more K390 in Spyderco including this model but really, let's just get the proposed version in BD1N out. I'd like to hold it, use it, abuse it a bit to see what it feels like first before we get too carried away with other versions.

Re: Para 3 Lightweight Exclusive/Sprint Hopes

K390 , K390, and K390.

I'd like this for sure in the current G10 version. Not sure about the LW yet till I get to handle one in a few months.

Re: More K390?

I'd love some K390 to try. My vote is the Para3. Personally this has become my favourite edc. I rotating between 3 different variations. I reserve my Chaparral (original version) for when I get dressed up. That isnt very often. The Para3 has proven a popular platform for Spyderco with about 22 varia...

Re: Para 3 Lightweight?

I personally prefer the G10 versions typically. I have 3 different blade steel Para 3 and the line fills most of my edc rotation now. However, this lightweight version has me really looking forward to it with the sculpted edges of the handles I think it may feel better in the hand. Still not sure ab...
