Congratulations, or condolences, whichever you prefer, whosyour! Was thinking how meaningful it would have been to have a Ladybug on a key ring, and to have slipped that around her finger at the appopriate point in the ceremony. -- Only in my dreams! Uh, br44 -- I trust you are referring to string k...

For anyone to give you a really effective answer, you need to be as specific as possible about how you see yourself using the knife/knives you're asking about. The laws governing blade length in your area would be nice also. You can buy a number of Spydercos for under $50. Probably the most knife yo...

Since your initial post included the Wegner, I'd recommend it and the Native. Course, I'm prejudiced. You see, those 2 are my primary EDCs. Both very flexible, utilitarian. Both useful for self defense, should that be necessary. Both tip up carry, which I've grown to prefer. Of course, I know the Mi...

As always, such things are dependent upon one's use and expectations for a knife. While I am very pleased with the Calypso Jr Ltwt I bought, and even more the Native, I can't see that one can get any more knife for the money than the Endura for $45. I'm not sure one has to stay in the Spyderco fold ...

I've a couple recent situations that demonstrate that I haven't been careful enough with knives. I always have knives by my PC. My daughter has never voiced the slightest hint that she's interested in knives. Has expressed significant distaste for them. About 2 weeks ago, I assume somewhat absentmin...

Mark1955 -- FWIW, I have a Gerber LST that is somewhere between 15 and 18 years old. Possibly older than that. I just can't remember well enough. I carried that knife from the time I got it until approximately 2 years ago. It now is my chief fruit knife. I have to de-gunk it every once in awhile. Wh...

There is no doubt that I try to monitor too many forums. I also post way too much. I'm really embarrassed Chinook, that I didn't remember to go back and see if anyone answered my question(s). Thank you very much. The thread link didn't work, but I can search over there as well as you. The picture li...

Hi MaNcEr. I'm really sorry I didn't follow this thread, after I first posted. I missed a lot, especially your second post. One thing I failed to say in my first post is that the wage of my daughter's friend is not considered a high one by any means. I'm embarrassed to admit that I don't know what m...

Very interesting and informative thread. Thanks, Ben, for those great links. Anyone, I'm curious as to how much similar material is found in the Spyderco book? Thanks, Woops. Forgot to say welcome to you, Mourner. Sorry to hear of your loss. I'm very blessed not to have experienced that yet. Stare E...

If you take a look at Spyderco's knife steel chart, you can see that the only appreciable difference between AUS8 and AUS10 is the amount of carbon in the mix. The increased carbon allows increased hardness of the steel. It also enables more carbides to be formed, carbides which are harder than the ...

Ruxton -- am not sure how much in the way of surveying of customers Spyderco does, but it is my guess that they anticipate that the majority of the knives they sell are going to be used as utility tools, or niche/task specific tools. From my perspective, all Spydercos are user oriented. If am correc...

This is just a guess, but I assume it is a weight/design issue. Only one liner is needed for a lock. The Wegner has the unusually long, steel back spacer, which weighs quite a bit. The Wegner as is, is a reasonably hefty knife. A second liner might add a bit more rigidity, but at the price of additi...
