Re: Batteries For Flashlights And Other Toys?

I'm at the point where I only purchase lights with an integrated charging port. To me having to unscrew a light and take out the batteries to charge or swap feels outdated at this point. It'd be like having to turn off my phone and swap a set of AA's in. ... I get it, and my most used light is an A...

Re: Would you be interested in "that" kind of Paramilitary 2 (different blade) ?

Closed, it looks a lot like a Native 5 blade with no hump and the swedge. I think it needs the hump and full stock thickness choil to maintain the PM2 ergos. I do like how looks as is though, and I think you did a nice job grafting the blade and handle together. It's a blade shape I'd buy over a tan...

Re: Batteries For Flashlights And Other Toys?

Most of my stuff runs AA or AAA and I use lithium so they don't leak. I only wish they made lithium D batteries for my mag lights. NiMH doesn't leak, and it's a rechargeable chemistry. You can get full capacity NiMH D cells from specialty brands. Energizer and most of the other mainstream companies...

I'll reiterate my desire for the Sage 2 to come back with a ceramic ball detent and LC200N blade as a Salt series knife.

Re: Batteries For Flashlights And Other Toys?

18650 or 16350 batteries for most of my flashlights. Eneloops for anything AA or AAA powered. I keep a few primary (non rechargeable) 3V lithium CR123s, and Energizer lithium (1.5V) AAs and AAAs on hand for their long shelf life as emergency stores. With most Surefire lights you're restricted to Lit...

Re: Caly3: my favorite EDC

I'd love to see the Calypso Jr come back with tip up pocket clip orientation and screw together construction. Still liner-less micarta with thread inserts like the original. That's the one knife I really regret selling.

Re: Need a Smimbo-small yojimbo

I'm with Naperville. I'd rather that Spyderco make the Chicagojimbo as standard production, since that retains the full size grip. I'm not sure how you'd thicken the tip without the making the entire blade grind thicker, since it's a wharnie.

A SPY27 Sage2 with a blue anodized handle would be sooo cool !
Good idea. Or a blue G10 show side scale with no liner for more durability than anodizing.

Re: Sage 2

I like the SpydieChef I had, but the ergos were just a little cramped for me. I'm not sure about scales for the Sage 1, but the Spyderco Brouwer is a titanium frame lock, and Flytanium offers custom front scales for that knife that delete the scale side liner. That would get someone back into an all...

Re: Lil' Native - compression lock

If you want a fidgety compression lock Spydie with a wire clip, take a look at the Sage 5 LW. It has a true bushing pivot that makes it very flickable and drop shut friendly. And the tip of the finger choil doesn't intrude into the lock bar cutout on the spine. The Taichng FRN has the perfect balanc...

Re: Native 5 FRN in S90V

I bought one when these first came out because I like the Native, I wanted to try S90V, and I like the teal color. I'm also surprised that these are still available. Most non-knife people who've seen the one I have think it's a nice looking color and that it looks more friendly than a black handled ...

Re: Which steel, edge angle, grit finish and sharpness level are you carrying today?

LC200N, serrrated. 20 degree sharpmaker rod slot on the grind side, burr broken freehand on the flat side. White rods Tip sharpened / reground to somewhere around 25 degrees on the grind side to take out a chip. Tip taken to 1200 grit diamond on the KME I used to sharpen the chip out. Very light use...

I have a friend who does industrial health and safety for a living, as in director of health and safety for big contractors that do superfund site cleanup type industrial work. He's active in the knife community as well, so I'll ask him for his thoughts.

Re: Delaware knife laws and Spyderco tenacious 3.39

You've opened a can of intrigue :D . In general, serrations increase the cutting edge length, because all those little scallops are longer than a straight line. The points also make contact with material first, and tend to protect the inner edges. Those two factors add up to an edge that can general...

Can you post pictures? I've never encountered a comp lock that I'd describe as stiff. It will probably break in, but best to let others more knowledgeable than me take a look.

Re: Sage 5 compression lock

The Sage 5 (CF / G10 laminate) use a regular straight pivot. The PM2, Para 3, and Para 3 LW all use stepped pivots that are smoother because they increase the surface area of the pivot pin to blade contact. My understanding is that this spreads the rotational forces over a larger area thereby decrea...

Re: In the end, who are sprint runs up to?

I know about Casey Lynch, his business isn't a well-kept secret. I ordered a replacement clip for my Delica and paid 35$ just for the shipping, for a 85$ knife, without even factoring the price of the clip itself. I won't even mention the taxes I pay in my country over international stuff, your hea...

Re: Wharncliffe Para Military 2 CUTLERY SHOPPE EXCLUSIVE

Still showing available 3.5 hours after launch. How long did the first batch of the BHQ Tanto PM2s last? I wonder if the availability of so many Seki back locks with wharnie blades; plus the Canis, Yojimbo, and Yojumbo; have tempered demand for this blade shape, even in a PM2. Lol, the Tanto went o...

Re: The spydie folder you would bring in a trip around the world

With no restrictions on locking blades, nor blade lengths, I'd carry my Native 5 Salt, or maybe the new Pacific Salt 2 with LC200N blade. With the reality of legal restrictions, I'd go for a UKPK since it's legal most places. I'd probably go for the upcoming UKPK Salt. If I'm going around the world,...
