Re: Difference in Native 5 backspacers
Last production linered G-10 Natives (S110V 2018-2020) have the 'longer' backspacer.

Re: Brands Almost as Good As Spyderco?
Maxace is the only company which I hold in a similar high regard with Spyderco. Their manufacturing capability is comparable to Reate, their titanium framelock engineering is far superior to Spyderco's Taichung stuff, they work with a number of exotic steels (including grades Spyderco has never used...

Re: N5 LW Maxamet, and all Maxamet blades in general.
It looks like a warping during HT. Sal has stated in the past that QC must accept a small amount of warping to keep Maxamet in production.

Re: help me think better of this blade
The phrase is 'molon labe', which means 'come and take it' in Greek.
The knife is gas station garbage. Given its size and mass, it's probably not safe to use.

Re: Spyderco Threadlocker
The stuff Spyderco uses at the factory is not the best option. Forget the Loctite anaerobic crap, get some Vibra-Tite VC-3 and quit worrying about it.

Get some Vibra-Tite VC-3. It's much better than any grade of Loctite or other anaerobic threadlocker.

Re: M4, K390, other tool steels - long term storage
I treat all of my non-stainless blades with EDCi, keep them in their original packaging and store them in Plano 3700 series waterproof boxes with some desiccant packs, eight Spyderco boxes per Plano box.

I'm hoping for standard production S110V, and a sprint in Rex T15 or ASP60...preferably not consumer-direct at full MSRP

Brown G-10 with either M390 or S35VN has historically been a Moteng distributor exclusive.

Re: Reveal 10 Live!
I've remained Chief complete up to this point, but M390 is not a compelling steel and full MSRP is painful.
T15 and Rex 76 are extremely interesting, but I wish they'd just put them straight into a large folder (like the Chief). I'd pay $250-290 for those without complaint.

Re: H-2 vs. H-1
Reducing carbon and nitrogen by more than 1/3 will probably do nothing good for edge retention. Increased corrosion resistance over H-1 is basically useless unless you're cutting car batteries. Better get your H-1 while you still can.

Re: Steels from Other Knifemakers
Stedemon, the parent company of Maxace, has also used Vanax. My Vanadis 10 kw1 tested 65.5 HRC, and my v1 Mammoth in v4e tested 64.8. I haven't been able to hardness test the ASP60 yet, but I'm a half dozen edges in and it's been really impressive so far. There's some completely valid criticisms ab...

Re: New Para 3 lock "catching"...
It's not strange at all. When you open the knife fast, the lock bar springs open faster, so it wedges against the lock face with more force. That's not what's happening. No matter how slow or fast you open a comp lock, the lockbar is going to move across the lock face at the same speed. When you fl...
