Re: s30v spyderco's acceptable
Are you sure you get the same edge? I couldve sworn ive seen pictures of 2 side by side edges, one sharpened with diamond and one without - the one without had an apex that was rougher, less clean, and you could see the bumps very visibly where carbides stuck out of the steel where the softer surro...

Re: s30v spyderco's acceptable
Thanks for the informative reply. I already own and use both a Hapstone 7 and Wicked edge pro3 with diamond stones, Silicone carbide strops etc. Things I would think might help would be bevel angle, degree of finished polish, thinning behind the blade, bur removal, wire blade removal hints and tips...

Re: s30v spyderco's acceptable
All steels with a lot of vanadium carbide will require diamonds or cbn to get a good edge... ...Vanadium carbide is very hard, harder than most stones and compounds. So if you use sharpeners that are not hard enough, you may eitehrt not sharpen your knife at all or get something called carbide tear...

Re: s30v spyderco's acceptable
Thanks a lot for reply, appreciate that! But I think I did not make my point clear enough in my question: In fact I DO get very good results (for my needs) on S30V just with my basic sharpmaker and NO CBN- or diamond- rods... I was wondering, if that is due to that I never let get my blade REALLY d...

Re: s30v spyderco's acceptable
what is your recommended way of brining our the best in S30V. All steels with a lot of vanadium carbide will require diamonds or cbn to get a good edge. A sharpening platform like the Spyderco triangle or Lansky is necessary for keeping the stones at the right angles. Diamond and cbn can be expensi...

Re: Need help making a decision
If you're trying to get one for yourself, there are lots of good ebay retailers who still have it brand new in stock. I also have one thats brand new, feel free to PM me and I might be able to help.

Re: Im keeping my enduras. No to the police 4
it isnt Spyderco that has me aggravated. Its the dam retailers teying to gouge us. But it would seeem everyone is ok with that. More importantly i am apparently supposed to be ok with that. And recognize, i guess, that letting them gouge me and everyone else should be something i put up with quietl...

Re: Need help making a decision
If you are down with CF, why don't you get something that has all original Spyderco parts including the CF scales? Factory parts are usually going to be better than aftermarket. If you want a Manix, there is a beautiful 4v sprint right now with marbled CF scales. I'd have to say this is one of the n...

Re: Im keeping my enduras. No to the police 4
Interestingly enough I was curious enough myself the other night to look into exactly what the general "standard" was when it came to upcharging for stuff like DLC and G10 for the same model. Unlike every other time I have done something similar like this, I was diligent enough this time t...

Re: What is your favorite Spyderco in CPM Cruwear?
Apparently there is one source that rates the peel ply CruWear at 61-63HRC, a point or two higher than the norm. I have this theory that the peel ply CF is a material reserved only for what Spyderco considers to be their very best steels that have also gone through the best possible heat treatments...

Re: Ikuchi with titanium scales and CTS-XHP?
I learned the value of the trailing point blade from the Hundred Pacer which dwarfs the Ikuchi and the Rhino you are very correct about that blade shape and the steel in the hundred pacer is also in CTS-XHP. I would however encourage you to get the Ikuchi. Yes it is that different. I generally boyc...

Re: Achieving blade drop without blade play
When you're breaking it in, its probably best to use have it free of lube so it breaks in fastest. The better your lube is, the longer it will take to break in. It could be the case that not all runs are created equal, even for recent production. Regardless, a proper PM3, and probably even PM2, shou...

Re: uncoated liners on DLC knives
Getting the action perfect on comp locks like the PM2/3 is pretty ficklke and there could be a chance that they don't DLC the liners in those because it would mess too much with how the lock feels. Whereas a Manix or Native would not be affected much with their tolerances changed a little with the D...

Re: Ikuchi Notes and Suggestion Thread
I really wonder what the X-factor is in ensuring a comp lock is going to give you smooth and free swinging drop shut action. The Taichung factory seems to be just as on point if not even more than the Golden one when it comes to tolerances and fit, so what could it be if that isnt the reason? I gues...

Re: Ikuchi - The New Kiwi?
They look both similar in that they are slim, but then everything else looks to be opposite - light CF vs heavy steel bolsters, flipper only vs spydiehole only sabre vs FFG, wharncliffe vs trailing point, the different blade shapes almost lend them to uses on complete opposite ends of the spectrum

Re: Ikuchi with titanium scales and CTS-XHP?
I've got a Reinholdt Rhino that's probably my favorite small EDC to carry right now by a long shot, and I've just noticed how similar the two knives are today - both have a very fine and pointy tip, thin trailing point blade, raw cf laminated G10, and taichung compression lock. They both cost and we...
