Re: Hitachi White Steel
I have two Murray Carter custom Santokus, one with White #1 and the other Aogami Super Blue. When I bought them from Murray, I asked him why he used both steels and what was the difference. He said that Japanese chefs, particularly sushi chefs, only use White steel as it takes the finest (sharpest) ...

Re: Clip Screw Question
Sounds like the previous owner stripped the holes in the liner. Unfortunate. Caveat Emptor.
Hopefully, Spyderco can fix it for you and won't charge too much.
Good Luck!

Re: Opinion : the Dragonfly 3 should look like the Byrd Robin 2
Sal designs continue to refine. Since its introduction 1993-4, the Dragonfly design has had three major modifications/versions as Sal's understanding of ergonomics and mechanical innovations have developed. The Robin 2 is a result of those continual design evolutions, somewhat like the C62 Navigator...

Re: Crowned spines
Easy to do, difficult to do well. There is a lot of steel to remove accurately to create a 180° radius. Even a squared spine takes a fair amount of skill to do by hand. A crowned spine takes a real craftsman.

Re: My non 90 degree sharpening
I would like to add; put your thumb on the spine of the blade. Stand back from the Sharpmaker about a foot. Sometimes, if you are looking down on the blade from directly above the left stone, and then move your hand to the right stone without changing your view, what looks to be vertical, might not...

Re: Cruwear/Smooth G10 Yojimbo Knifecenter exclusive
Is that really a crack or just a deeper line (scratch) from grinding caused by a carbide being torn out and momentarily stuck in the grinding wheel. Hard to see anything on the obverse side, cutting edge, or finger hole. Have you looked at it under magnification with a loupe?

Re: POLL: Shape of "Standard Mule" MT28P2
Different shape, look, and feel is great as I am all in favor of new variations, however, this is not exactly what the Mule concept is all about. All the same but different steel, so that when testing/using only one feature would not be the same as all of the others. In that way, the knife would be ...

I have known about the Gauntlet since seeing the first drawings and SLA model, through the patent application, patent, and prototype, and like the user safety factor of the base over the SharpMaker, however, we sell very few Gauntlets vs SharpMakers (selling SharpMakers since 1980-81) due to the Gau...
