Oh man, glad it worked out! I am so paranoid about this that I typically go without my knives when flying these days and it drives me crazy the whole trip to not have them. I had a less fortunate experience several years back when my not-yet-wife and I were still dating: We went to see Tool play at...

I'd do a few as a folder I'd call it the operater. It would have a 4 inch wahrncliff blade made out of s110v. It would be a waved flipper with bearings and a g10 handle.

It would likely be ugly as can be but I'd love it.

I have never handled a manix and since I prefer tip down carry the para it is. Though I think a waved manix xl would be all kinds of awesomeness if ever produced.

Depending on the steel you can sharpen even with river rocks or a brick but not hair splitting high quality edges. I have some low end sharpening stones which just over the course of trying to learn to free hand I have destroyed. I am really thinking of picking up a sharpmaker I've watched Sals demo...

I'd ship him a box of condoms in a nice hefty cardboard container and wrap it in a good amount of duct tape.

With a big "good luck you won't need these anyways since you can go..."

You get the idea!

I can tell you this on my beater edc which has aus8 it took me about 6 months to work it/sharpen it out from a metal staple in industrial cardboard. Buy a sharp maker/sharpening stone use the knife and take the chipping out.
