That’s right, Dr. at the beginning, Ph.D at the end. And Ph.D needs the period for the extra classy touch just like Cindy Crawford’s mole.

I read the original post several times but I still don’t know what it is saying.

Passivation is treating with acid to remove iron particles and to force the chromium oxide to form at the surface. The oxide forms on its own but passivation helps. It could be helpful but it doesn’t seem to be standard practice in the knife industry.

In general optimizing for corrosion resistance is not at odds with optimizing for other properties. They were powder metallurgy high speed steels (non-stainless) of some kind. There are a lot of them that can do 66+ Rc.

I am really enjoying the combination of metallurgist and custom knife maker biographies interwoven with the history of different steel type’s development.
