I agree, an uncoated stop pin makes complete sense to me for reliable and consistent lockup. No surface layer to wear off over time and change the lock tolerance. I suggest you resharpen it a few times to completely remove steel behind the factory edge. See Outpost76’s channel on Youtube. I oiled a Cruwear micarta PM2 using mineral oil a few times. Every time it would return to its original light colour after a few weeks.
