The average rip-mart EDC

It's kind of funny in a way because if you find out what knife that most people use for their EDC it will probably surprise you. What most of us Knife Aficionados would regard as ideal wouldn't even be considered among most pocket knife carrying guys/gals. I would bet that most EDCs carried here in ...

Testing is believing

I recently got a FB01 and can't help but wonder how much the Temperance would've sold if it had some of that Kraton inlayed in the FRN handle like the Morans.....the combo of materials in the handle would probably change the minds of many who discount the big Temperance b/c of the handle's traction...

Steel preferences > Why no fanfare for M-4?

OK Mastiff that's fair>> we all don't like the same things obviously. But I had much better luck with GIN-1 steel than I did with some others. I liked it much better than I did AUS-8 and I liked about equal to ATS-34. Now it's no longer my steel of choice although I did carry a Renegade model for ab...

Non Conventional>> My take

I guess my definition or my overall take on what makes a blade "NON CONVENTIONAL" might be a bit misunderstood. I was making a point that most of these aforementioned Spyders have a niche all their own and for the most part are not duplicated anywhere in the knife kingdom. The one brother ...

Stickin to my statement

Now look Thombrogan I agree with you about the over-hype of S-30V. Although I do think it is a good blade steel overall but I agree that all the magazine hype of 2001-2002 was truly a bit overdone. In some respects I even like the predecessor 440V ( S-60V) even better. And keep in mind that I qualif...

My blade bases are covered

you don't like AUS-6? . man, ok, edge retention isn't high-tech awesome, but it sharpens like a breeze to a razor-edge within 2 minutes :) i'd like to unclude another factor to the steel-madness: somewhere in time the steel-improvements need to either end or the sharpening equipment has ...

Nothing out of the ordinary

the reason i want to do this with a native is because of the handle - shape and material, i'm not a fan of SS handles, btw, what do you think my objective is? you made it sound kinda sinister :o my only intent is to create a blade design that i like and don't have legal problems to carry in a handl...

Diamond files

the reason i want to do this with a native is because of the handle - shape and material, i'm not a fan of SS handles, i much prefer frn for the feel and the weight. from what i have heard s30v is a tough nut to crack when it comes to grinding and i don't have any special tools so basically i'm ask...

This made no sense what so ever

Well this year I haven't gotten any bad gifts but 2 years ago some very dear friends of mine ( husband & wife) got me a cheap, Chinese made, Cub scout knife  . I know it's the thought that counts but this was truly a head scratcher. Them knowing that I was a serious knife collector and...

LOnG TiMe nO SeE

Can anyone give me a source for a szabofly? thx Been a while since we seen you dude  I would say that Ebay or Bladeforums would probably be your best bet. I am not a Butterfly fan per se and I traded my last Spyderfly about 6 months ago. However if I was to get another Butterfly knife it ...

Be careful with blade modifications

I got a feeling that I know what your objective is "I. V." However rather than go through all that why don't you just run down one of the older Mariner models with GIN-1 blade steel. I still consider that model one of my personal functional favorites. That blade steel is not bad at all. To...

Many more factors than blade steel alone

Great thread Clovisc  I can see why you feel the way you do. And I agree with you to a large degree. But there are really only 2 blade steels that Spyderco ever used that I honestly just completely despise. They are AUS-6 and 440A. Two of my earlier Spyderco EDCs were made of those blade steel...
