Re: Spyderco Fillet knife!

15-20+ years ago Spyderco had a fillet knife project in the works with Phil Wilson, the King of fillet knives. I remember seeing several generations of prototypes, maybe two sizes, but the project was put on the back burner, perhaps due to the then perceived high cost. Today, with renewed interest d...

Re: What was the first contemporary "super-steel" to see mass distribution in the knife industry? M4? 10V?

I believe that Gerber began using chrome plated M2 (from used power hacksaw blades) in the late 1940's if not before WWII when they began in the late 1930s. The same chrome plated M2 was used in the fixed blade hunting line in the mid-1950s.

Too bad Spyderco discontinued the BEST (SpyderEdge Pointed, K14S) of their Z-Cut Series for 2022. Dunno why. :thinking >:[

Re: I've finished my Spyderco steel collection.

If you are going to count the non-Spyderco Tak Fukuta Ceramic, then the Solo Titan should be added to the list as well:
https://catalogs.z6.web.core.windows.net/ironstone.pdf, See page 43.

Also there are three types of 440C used; wrought, cast (dendritic), and MIM.

Re: I've finished my Spyderco steel collection.

I believe that MRS-30 was the steel that Al Mar used for his introductory series of knives. He called it RS-30. I wonder if the M stands for Masahiro. The only other steel missing is AUS8W which was used for the KX05 Sashimi (Yanagiba) knife: https://www.spyderco.com/catalog/details/KX05/Spyderco-Sa...

Re: Back lock position question – what to expect

All folding knife locks wear as their interfacing surfaces make contact. As a lockback is opened and closed both the tang and the rocker arm will wear down (reduce) and the rocker arm will no longer be flush with the liners/blade. It will ever so slowly sink. This is part of normal wear and tear wit...

Re: "Scope The Edge" Ideas and Participants List

Also a good list of subjects. I'd like to add one out of the chute; can the advantage of a swedge be measured? sal Sal, are you referring to the type of swedge Ed Schempp used on his competition cutter that he claimed reduced resistance when cutting rope, etc.? This idea is also used on some Japane...
