Re: Building a Custom Knife for Sal: CPM S60V

I know the price of most PM steels in Europe and they're not cheap, especially CPM in low quantity (Bohler is closer so that's normal). I still felt like the cost was high for one knife but then I saw the size of the knife, understandable. :squinting-tongue Yes, it's funny because a lot of us start...

Re: Is this the knife everyone clamors for?

I was gonna say that I feel like my Backlock Manix 2 feels a bit soft spring-wise.
Still love it !

@cjk saw what you did there :winking-tongue

Re: Mule Suggestion: Vanadis 8

I'd love the opportunity to try this steel, even Vanadis 4E. I've seen it used a lot by some europeans brands but I don't buy their products (no symbolism in this, I just don't). And the other brand I've seen using it is Bradford and the designs don't talk to me much, even if they're really good and...

Re: What "Other" is in your pocket???

My LG Inkosi can't really leave my pocket, even if the Bowie arrived. I made a little bit thicker inlays and the new "hammer grip" makes it so that I can't let go of the knife at all ! Can't wait to expriment more with inlays :open-grin

Re: Any word on the Salsa?

I did not care much for the compression lock of my Salsa, it had pivot play and vertical play when the blade was locked. But I'm pretty sure these things would not happen on a new one. I'd love to see it in something like Cruwear, K390 or even one of the very hard japanese steels, with according col...

Your Bowie really looks great. Your pictures are always flattering to any subject highlighted but man, does it look good.
It's a subtle thing really, but it works so wel with the handle.

Re: Knifejoy Exclusive...Slysz Bowie??!!

@Ramonade Any tricks to cleaning the anodized blue handle? So far, I've tried Windex, alcohol, CLP, water. Nothing works. I've just used soap and my finger and after rincing I used a soft cloath to clean them and it sorta worked. Left darker spots here and there. I managed to scratch it day 1 so it...

Re: Thoughts on the spymyto???

Thanks for clarifying what kind of grind the Spymyto has, @Ramonade. Since I missed out on getting a Lil Lionspy years ago, I think I'll try to snag one of these so that I have an Italian Spydie with thick blade stock :smlling-eyes You're welcome ! I have to admit that I have enough slicers already...

Re: Get me excited about M398

We probably should have made multiple threads here. Thread dedicated to the theoretical and physical evaluations of this steel. I don't work for spyderco and I don't tell them what recipe to follow in terms of heat treat. I can provide my own experiences to assist with their overall evaluations on ...

Re: Get me excited about M398

You're talking about knowing stuff but when speaking with an entire community of people with very different levels of knowledge/culture on the subject, it can't really bring a lot to the discussion if you do not have a way to vulgarize or explain what you know as facts. That might be one of the reas...

Re: Thoughts on the spymyto???

@apollo, did you notice if it had a hollow grind or a full flat grind? Flat grind... I was really disappointed but eh. It was pretty thick BTE, more than a Shaman. I pre-ordered one mostly because of the high hollow grind announced in the reveal and on the product page on their website. I'll see if...

Re: Knifejoy Exclusive...Slysz Bowie??!!

I've just received the one I found on the secondary (Knifejoy but first run). I'm glad I did not pass on that opportunity. Before knowing if I wanted the Bowie or simply buy another CRK when I had the budget, I wanted to get the knife in hand. A friend brought his knifejoy Bowie to the Amsterdam Mee...

I have a good amount of experience making knife scales using a trim router/mini table setup, and have a few pieces of advice for you. You are correct that making small parts is inherently dangerous, so you really need to be careful and use extreme caution when doing this. I have been a cabinetmaker...

Re: Spyderco and hrc

I don't even care about the exact HRC nr, mainly because I know Spyderco is one of the best in terms of heat treatment. Clearly, their XHP, M390 and 20CV are stunning examples of that. I haven't seen better, and rarely equally good heat treats for these steels. And for many others, we can't see any...

Re: Knife that screams liner lock got the compression lock - why?

Up until 2021 or 2022, only Spyderco could use the compression lock, their invention. Why not use it ? I get it for collaborations that were initially linerlocks. Except if it is something the creator of the original custom knife agreed to. If they did, well they wanted it that way and good for them...
