I'm now back in the hunt (for a new Spydie)
Below is the once thought long lost item, that is begging to be put to use. Haven't visited the board in a few months, but my first stop was Ramzar's thread ;). It was a fruitful effort that put in place one out of the two *current* contenders below. contenders: C41PYL5 Native 5 Salt C88SYL2 Salt 2 ...

Re: Do I really "need" a Southard?
To answer the question in the title of this thread--I'm not sure but I ordered one anyway. :spyder: > > > :spyder: :) Haha, I know I don't actually need a Southard. Just like I don't actually need most of the other knives I've procured in the last few years. In fact, I just put the Slive...

Re: Do I really "need" a Southard?
I also received shipping confirmation from KC today so it was pretty quick. Prior to pulling the trigger, I was contemplating very hard on which color to pick and choose from. At the end I went with original brown handle so I’m bit curious to hear which one is favorite among others here. Thanks The...

Re: What should I expect from this knife?
I went through a period living on the Big Island where in succession, a couple of Kabars were my do it all knives. The Buck 119 that was also on hand, was a lot less enjoyable to sharpen.

Got my shipping confirmation. Looks like I've bypassed the fluted Mili again.

Re: Thinly Ground Knives??
I love my Spydercos, don't get me wrong. My chapparal is a slicing machine. As is my Sprig. Lately, I've been really into super thin grinds and wanted some guidance regarding what's available out there. What knives are out there that really excel as slicers? It doesn't have to be Spyderco. I just t...

Re: 2017 - Lightweight/FRN Chaparral
My Black Friday spending has gone a bit overboard, so I'll be delaying my Chaparral LW for a few weeks. The thinness of the handle is something of an irresistible feature.

Re: Phil Wilson Sprig review.
We got a good discussion with my friend Dan Sharp about the use of S90V on such a blade. One thing which seems to be forgotten is that small games are hard on edge. Hares can dull the edge very quickly. Here is another article about Italian hunters using ZDP189 Walker because of that.... :-) https:...

Re: 2017 - Lightweight/FRN Chaparral
Some additional input. When we think of FRN, we don't necessarily think of very light weight. We think of lowering cost due to less labor. when we think of "make it light weight", we think linerless, or extra skeletonizing (if strength is needed) cavities (like the Salt 2 or Moran). We ca...

Re: Sea kayak fishing & an aggressive hammerhead
That is very interesting about the Galapagos sharks, I saw a video of people snorkeling with them. I think someone on the forum here should partner with Sal and invent some kind of "Anti Shark Knife" that can also work against vicious Salt Water Crocodiles, Baracuda, and other nasties. As...

Re: Must-have Millies?
I'm still sick due to passing up on the Fluted Ti, that was recently on sale at KC. My attentions are now directed to the KnifeWorks Spyderco C36CFTIP Ti Military, which I'll probably wait till its too late as well.

Re: Sea kayak fishing & an aggressive hammerhead
Could a person armed with a Spyderco Pacific Salt or Fish Hunter or Aqua Salt, if they saw it coming, successfully defend themselves against a shark of that size and ferocity, or does this depend on numerous factors? There are people who have used fingers and hands successfully as last defense. I'd...

Re: Sea kayak fishing & an aggressive hammerhead
Got tired after 46 sec. Clue me in: I didn't see it raise its head once. The mouth on a HH that size is not big. I don't quite follow Roger. I basically posted the link to show what is a typical write up in Australian papers when someone is bitten. I hadn't looked at the video clip till just then a...
