Assuming Sal's comment is not somehow being misinterpreted, one has to wonder why the C14 and C45 are still in the lineup. Unless it's yet another case where the S&S community is reluctant to accept change. This sums up my logic much better than I could! Do you have another example of the S&...

Thinking about this earlier today. The Rescue seems to have evolved along similar lines to the Endura and Delica. It's had 2/3 generations, depending on if you count the Mariner, and seems ripe for updating. So, Rescue 4 with liners, screw construction, 4-way clip, bi-directional texturing and sabe...

Keep in mind that there are other factors aside from Rockwell hardness that determine the character of a steel. It is only one component of the mix that determines performance. Supposedly implies they are not rustproof. Lots of folks have tried to get them to rust, but i still have not seen it. I h...

I know that VG10 in PE configuration beats out H1 for edge retention so I would assume it would be the same in serrated format. That said, I recall a quote from Sal saying at least in CATRA testing serrations typically double the edge retention over PE in the same blade configuration and steel. Thu...

I'm thinking that Kristi was referring to the Jumpmaster, which Sal has said outperformed all previous edges (and would make far more sense at an RC of 68 than most models), but it is a unique knife in terms of the thickness and amount of grinding done on it. Doubt that a stock Atlantic Salt SE wil...

I'd say that VG-10 will be more wear resistant than even the most work hardened H-1. It is also quite rust resistant, but obviously yields to H-1 in that regard. So it comes down to what you value most, edge holding or rust resistance. Thanks for the input. I guess I didn't have the VG-10 models lo...

Rescue and Rescue Jr. in VG-10 pointless?

I started collecting the Spyderco Rescue knives, and they all ended up getting used because I just can't help myself. They have been sold off after a month or two of ownership, (because I remembered I don't have a real job and tuition is expensive) but it wasn't until now I really started thinking a...

Dear Ted: Again, the important message in all of this is having a testing methodology that provides information relevant to your intended application. I'm confident that I've done that to meet my needs and my preferred tactics. Nevertheless, I'll offer some answers to your questions: Yes. That is b...

What is the point of making these statements. You could have simply stuck with "exhibited a known characteristic". Which, until now was relatively unknown to me... And it IS UNreasonable for anyone to criticize the way I have been in this thread. Be constructive, as most people here have ...

I was simply stating that I was shocked that for a "super hard steel" it broke relatively easily... as I stated, My G-2 blade has hit many a hard things and even been used as [gasp I know] a mini pry-bar, and its only got a bit of a bent tip to show for it (which wasn't from prying actual...

A pile of assumptions and questions

5) Based on the study cited above, I began to do my own testing using a ballistic pendulum--a long, swinging arm that holds a knife at the end. I chose this device because it replicates, at least to a degree, the natural arcing motion of the human arm and because by raising it to a specific angle b...

I like the DMT taper sharpener for my SE knives. It's so easy to use and my H1 knives will pushcut newsprint with any serration if I do a good job. You can flip them like a Balisong too..Which is really fun until you drop them and break the tip off. Be careful after touching up the teeth on a Spyder...

Ah. The thing i'm curious about is how long the blade would stay straight after repeated use and sharpening. I bet it would eventually get a curve to it. That's like saying a blade with a ton of belly will go flat. It you sharpen with good technique, it will just get shorter from the tip and in hei...

Purposeless tests serve no purpose.

A knife will never have that much debris shoved into the lock in the hands of a smart user.

Using the knife to make a digging stick is the correct usage if you have to go play with the mud with your dog!

All in all, it's a great design for EDC. The low point with all its controllability is perfect for opening packaging.

I EDC my Saver Salt for similar reasons.

All in all, Demko handled it very well. Had Lynn Thompson's inarticulate, breath-starved commentary been left out, Demko could have made a few very good points (no pun intended) about the Americanized Tanto design. The more work, videos, and writing by Demko I see, the more I like the guy. It would ...

No such thing as being that unlucky.

Some people can't appreciate the limits of a lock design's tolerances. I'm one of them! :D

If you're not careful with the knife, you'll throw off the clean lockup. It's a fact of life.
