Re: Spyderchef dropping

SMKW showed them as in Stock on their website. But after a call they said they actually aren't. But they expect to receive some this week or next week. Here's to hoping! that's an unfortunate possibility... seeing that I have one preordered from SMKW and since it showed in stock I emailed them to s...

I'd love to see another run of this, especially in a Hap40 iteration.

Re: Benton Box Shop M390 PM2

I'll get another if they aren't marked up all crazy. Especially since this run will have the C.Q.I. Upgrades. I don't know if I prefer S110V over M390. But I do prefer the smurf color :D. What CQI upgrades ? Eh, my bad I meant quality control overall. At least it doesn't seem coincidenta...

Re: Who got the KC Manix 2 BRN LW & what do you think?

Does anyone have a KC brown Native to compare the color to? Is it just the pictures, or does this one seem a little bit of a darker chocolate as opposed to the Native's more hot-cocoa-esque brown? And may I be the first to jump on you, SteelSpyder, to point out that the XHP PM2 was orange (both of ...

Re: Who got the KC Manix 2 BRN LW & what do you think?

That brown is a deal killer for me... I would've liked to see some cool color, maybe a dark red/burgundy but I imagine it's hard to come up with colors that they haven't used and would also appeal to the most customers. I wasn't happy about the brown at first but now that I have one in hand I'm act...

Re: Who got the KC Manix 2 BRN LW & what do you think?

I love mine, close to perfect centering. My only complaint is a slight gap in the back spacer. But that's not biggy. Great lockup. Direct sunlight. http://i888.photobucket.com/albums/ac81/yoyofool1/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_20161007_124626_zpsvol8bfki.jpg More shaded. http://i888.photobucket.com/albums/a...

I have this, the Maxamet version, and the Cru-wear Para 2 on preorder. There are several other releases and variants I am eyeing too. Spyderco's getting all my attention again haha.

Re: Why the Manix in Maxemet?

A few things. As far as the cost to this piece, from what I understand Sal mentioned somewhere that this was the most expensive steel they have bought to date. That on top of the extra expense in machining, grinding ect due to the high hardness and makeup of the steel, and there is another big part...

Re: Sunday Poll - Should S30V be phased out?

I like these kind of threads if for no other reason than I can learn something. As a relative novice to sharpening could someone elaborate on the problems of sharpening S30V and any advice when sharpening S30V. I wouldn't say there are exactly inherit problems with sharpening S30V. For me I prefer ...

Re: Sunday Poll - Should S30V be phased out?

I might be a weirdo, but I wouldn't mind seeing it phased out in favor of S35VN. As far as Spyderco goes I prefer their S35VN. But again, I'm sure I'm in the minority. You may be in the minority but you are not alone. I also prefer S35VN over S30V. It is a "standard" Spyderco steel that h...

CTS-XHP would be a great option too.

Re: 3V

I don't think there's much need for it in folders that aren't also meant to be beefy tanks like the Tuff, strider smf, Benchmade adamas, ect. Folks tend to focus on how tough a knife you can build with 3V and tend to forget that toughness also allows for a blade that's very thin behind the edge. I ...

Re: 52100 Military, what are your plans?

Steelspyder, that's a very narrow bevel for 12 dps, which tells me the primary grind is pretty thin. I hope I also get a thin one. Small update. I found my some batteries for my calipers and did some measurements. Sharpened at a 12-13* per side edge: Thickness behind the edge, at the heel of the bl...

Re: 52100 Military, what are your plans?

Has anyone measured the angle of the edge bevel on these? It looks pretty obtuse from the pics. Or maybe the blade stock is a little thinner than standard Millies? On my EdgePro it was about 12* per side. As for thickness behind the edge, I'll try and find some batteries for my calipers sometime so...

Re: 52100 performance thread

Mine sharpens up really easily. When I initially reground it with natural stones it was a bit more abrasion resistant than I anticipated. But my diamond stone readily removed metal. It has a slight straw colored patina started in a few areas where I cut smoked gouda. Sort of surprised that cheese ca...
