Might as well Dan. Born in NZ, came to Sydney when I was 4, been here since. Started an interest in Spydies in about late 06 when I dug out a Spyderco '03 catalogue, wanted a Lil' Temp, found it was disco'd, but got one when they released that last little trickle of them. I'm not as big a collector ...

Very nice, thanks for the pics!

Wonder if this'll be incorporated in any of the newer models, seems like it could work well in a whole range and not just the heavy work knives.

One more to add to your list, the Tuff, by Ed Schempp. Disclaimer though, I've only ever heard about it though, still in the concept stage, dunno if it's been dropped or not. From what I heard, Ti integral framelock, steel is CPM-3V. Hope it hasn't been dropped... One small correction, your list say...

+1 to what Paul said, that's a fairly good description. Might I also add, it's rather big by Spyderco standards, I think I estimated a 4.5" blade on it.

Good to see another member from Aus, which part are you from?

+1 to the recommendations of online dealers, they're practically the only option we've got. A couple of popular ones are New Graham Knives and http://www.spydercovt.com (the owner, Tom, posts here by the username catamount).

+1 on the comp lock being stronger, out of all the knives Spyderco have built, they haven't made a liner/framelock that falls under their heaviest rating, and I'm pretty sure it's not for a lack of trying. If you look at the actual locking elements, in a liner lock you're pushing on a relatively thi...

My memory says that there was something about balis that latch open being illegal in some places, but I can't remember where, or whether that is correct in the first place.

2. a Jens Anso proto call "ZULU", which size wise (medium) will provide a great compliment to the Rock Lobster. Interesting, how different was it from his custom Zulus? I brought 3 Rock Lobs to the show for Jens to sign the scales, but he ended up buying one of them from me because he's o...

I doubt recycling is possible for the particle metallurgy steels. At one stage several forumites expressed interest, and so they sent a bunch to a forumite who sent a few out to any who were interested (think it was J Smith).

I've got a few. :D

Hmm... while I can think of several things, I'd wager on something designed by Ed Schempp. A kopis (read: upsized and "modernised" Rock Salt) perhaps?

What I'd also be interested in is what would happen if Sal designed a sword.

Excellent, not only because of the greater variation, but because it seems that Spyderco sees it being worthwhile to continue making BaliYos!

No worries, I just searched for "Stop lock" on the forum, but it was buried somewhere on the second or third page though. On the ambidexterity issue, if I'm reading it right, it should be possible to have the lever on both sides, or maybe just replace it with a pin that goes through the lo...

http://www.freepatentsonline.com/6918184-0-large.jpg From what I can tell, it functions in a similar way to the compression lock (something wedged between the stop pin and the blade tang), but instead of having the "something" being part of the liner, it's a bit of steel that rotates arou...
