I am not sold on it. For me, this knife falls into a kind of gap. The blade is too large for small tasks, and too small for large tasks. I think that a 3.5 inch blade length would be a better application for this design.

A tangent to this topic for perspective. I got back into knife knuttery about 3 years ago after a 15 year hiatus. I started with Spyderco folders, and I still think they are the best of the pack, overall, of the true contract/mass production houses. That said, I have been able to find the resources ...

Hi Sal. I had the chance to use a Ti Salsa for a short while. Simple question - how is a compression lock an improvement over the mid-lock? I found the compression lock to be about the same in terms of lack of ease of one-handed closing as a mid-lock. Add in the "pinching" effect, the fact...

Sal - regarding a leather case - there are two companies that presently provide leather slip cases that I am aware of, William Henry and Chris Reeve. The one sold by Chris Reeve is buttery soft, larger that the knife by far and stabilizes the carry in the pocket. The one from William Henry is very s...

Hey, demtek9, where are you "hearing" about the Spyderco's financial status. Please share. Private email me if you don't wish to post on the forum.

I hope your source of info isn't the same as the "dcsniper".

The Kiwi is definitely one of the great small blade designs, factory or custom. Very nice workmanship.

Congratulations to Sal and all of Spyderco on a real winner.

Kiwi

It is the best very small knife I own, custom, benchmade or otherwise. A design marvel.

Don't think CF would really do much for the Kiwi unless you mean Carbon Fiber Bolsters!! The downside of that would be a very difficult if not impossible Spyderdrop situation. (No weight). You really need that heavy back bolster. But the entire thing out of SS would be way too heavy. Titanium would ...

TK usually has the most useful content. Blade and Knives Illustrated tend toward more collector/art type information. TK however, consistently and regularly makes factual mistakes about knives - such as the maker, blade steel, etc. So take what you read there with a grain of salt. Also, maybe we cou...

Brandon, it is relatively durable, meaning that it will resist the kind of wear scratches that appear mysteriously on stainless handle knives within seconds after touching them. However, any real contact like scraping agains something hard, dropping it, or long term use WILL produce irreparable scra...

Pretty much my favorite blade shape along with a upswept wharncliff. Unfortunately, it is a lock back, which keeps it out of my pocket most of the time. Second, it has the nasty exposed sharp back corner typical of lockbacks - definitely not a positive IMO. One of my fantasy projects would be to get...

Why don't you try www.bodycote.com Email Darrell @ dlewis@bodycote-na.com I believe for $25 you can get the blade (& perhaps liner) boron-coated. Much higher quality than the old black Millie's. I had one of the Black-Ti Workers - That coating was downright primitive. No wonder it was almost imm...

Bob Lum makes a chinese folder with CF scales. They go for about $650. They are very nice. And no, I don't have one.

The Spyderco Lum is a terrific design, but those aluminum scales are too slippery for my taste.

Those double rubber clips solve the problem of "lost" Spyderco's. The plain metal clips can easily let you knife de-clip themselves. IIRC, the original thinking on these was to maximize grip security. I have one of the Evolution Workers. I find the clip a bit cumbersome, but if I were to f...

Well... as some explain it, the liner lock concept was "extended" to include the entire scale. The primary value in this was in fact to counteract the release problem that some have found in linerlock design and execution. I have only had one liner-lock design fail on me, that was the SOG ...

The clips on the C22 Walker are not "heat-blued". They are anodized Titanium. I agree with Clay, the bead-blast clip on the Centofante is a nice alternative to polished SS. Or, how about a Boron-Carbide-coated clip? The only issue there would be lubricity, but perhaps not a big deal. Anyth...

Which Custom Collaboration is Closest to the Real Thing?

I have been fortunate enough to own, however briefly, all of the custom collaboration models except for the Horn C27 (bone scales). I have been fortunate enough to own or handle original (or similar) knives by many of the original makers or designers. Of all of these, which one do you think most clo...
