Re: Explaining the difference between G10 and Micarta
Its not the resin that makes micarta grippy. It's the cloth fibers that swell when exposed to moisture that give you increased surface area and therefore grip. Since g10 is a fiberglass like material, the fibers cant do that. Though G10 does absorb less gunk than micarta. Sorry, but that makes no s...

Re: Explaining the difference between G10 and Micarta
I'm afraid that if they don't understand what fiberglass or carbon fiber is, for them there is no difference between Micarta and G-10. It's all just "that stuff on the handle". The resin used in Micarta gives more grip wet than it does dry, where G-10 tends to give less grip when wet, whi...

I love micarta. Natural canvas micarta takes on a beautiful dark brown color with age and use.

Re: Spyderco K2 after a month of use.
How is the lock setting in? I was set to get one of these upon release. However, I've been holding off due to reports of late lockup or the lock hitting the opposite scale after short term use. The lock on this one came at about 70% and has stayed there. I have opened it fairly often. This is prett...

Spyderco K2 after a month of use.
I bought myself a K2 for my birthday at the end of September and have been using it this past month almost all cutting tasks. I have to say this is my favorite knife that I have gotten a long while. I originally got it because of the 10V, but I was very pleasantly surprised by the rest of the knife....

Re: Edge retention as influenced by apex finishing grit
As always Cliff, thanks for the information. The time question makes a lot of sense, at least for me, as one of the ways I maintain edges between full sharpenings, is using a micro bevel on either my DC4 or Double Stuff pocket stone. Some steels can definitely be problematic but others take to this ...

Re: Edge retention as influenced by apex finishing grit
Not to sound like an idiot, but I have some questions about the graph that are not quite clear to me. What does TCE (1.5%)[in] stand for? What is it showing? Also, I am assuming from the initial sharpness measurement of the soft Arkansas, that it is more than 100% of optimal. How is that? Did it exc...

Re: Just steels...
I would love to see a chopper in S7 at about 60rc. I am enjoying my K2 so it would be interesting to see something else with 10V, say slicer in the same realm as Phil Wilson, but a folder. A knife in Niolox/SB1 would be great as well.
