Most Spyies get blown out with compressed air and washed in dish soap. Shake the water out, let dry and lube with mineral oil. Keep it simple, don't overthink this.
Salt 1 goes into the dishwasher.

I don't think that the fine stones are fine enough. Not even sure if ultra fines would do the trick.

I've put my Salt 1 thought the dishwasher a couple times. Other Spydies I just blow out with compressed air. Took my Delica 4 apart once. That was a mistake. Hard to get that dang spring back in. Thank God for YouTube.

Long live the Golden Era of Spyderco. I recently got a small Manix and consider it on of Spyderco's true classics.
I'm going to say 2007 - today.

Give the D2 some time and it will grow on you. I felt the same when I first got mine. I have the FRN and the G10. I carry the G10 everyday in the coin pocket of my jeans and a bigger Spyderco clipped in my rfp.

Great tutorial.
Does the RIT dye last or will it fade? Since water is used in the application of the dye I would think that it could affect it later on. Not sure.
Thanks

I have an older Salt 1 that is pinned construction. The 2012 Spyderco Catalog says that they are now screw construction. Not sure which type would be strongrer.
No manufacturer makes a better (stronger) pinned knife than Spyderco.

Here is the thing. If you want a big nasty looking knife for the sake of a big nasty looking knife the Millie (among others) are great choices which will cut better than the ZTs because they're thinner, especially behind the bevel. If you are actually looking to use your knife as a tactical prybar ...

Great buy at that price. The Sage 1 is my favorite Spyderco. The S30V blade holds an edge really well and the carbon fiber handles look like they would scratch up easily but they are really tuff. Mine has been carried for a year and still looks new.
