David, isn’t the tiny bevel on the otherwise flat side of the knife similar to what some modern Japanese kitchen knife makers do?
Yes. I have a few Japanese knives that are ground with asymmetrical grinds and love them. Super fast to sharpen and cut fantastically.

Re: Are there any Watu fans out there ?

I almost passed on the Watu because I thought laminated CF seemed like an odd choice for this knife considering the inspiration. It ticked all the other boxes for me though so I gave it a go and glad I did. It's a great slicer and the coffin handle is very comfortable in my hand. When I saw the trif...

Re: Blade HQ Jade/M4 Dodo SE coming

Steel/handle material were contributors as well. I bought both the PE and SE versions being a big fan of the Dodo and reverse "S" blades in general, but I will say M4 steel and Jade scales would not have been high on the list of options I would have chosen if I could pick from the choice ...

I don't know if suingab will sell just the backspacer but it wouldn't hurt to ask. https://g10.lt/?s=endura

Re: Smock 2nd detent ball spring

I bent the 2nd detent ball spring on a Smock during a scale replacement. Spyderco will not send a new spring, I have to send the knife to Spyco HQ for repair. Anyone know a source for a new spring? Or have a spare? Thx I lost a spring putting a set of micarta scales on mine. I tried to find a sprin...

Re: 2023 Forum Calendar Contest!

I don't remember the exact wording but after submitting my photo I saw a message that said something to the effect of Submission Successful. I remember thinking to myself oh they must have added that based on feedback from this thread.

Maybe @TazKristi can confirm?

Re: 2023 Forum Calendar Contest!

This year I chose the Watu. From the tip of its thin 20CV blade to the end of the coffin shaped handle this Spyderco ticks all the boxes for an excellent EDC knife.

Re: Who would you contact at Spyderco Corporate

This is quite likely the most bizarre thread I've come across during my time here.

I've got questions but I don't think they'll be answered so I'm just gonna watch from the sidelines.

I absolutely love this knife, and I typically go for something on the larger side. It's perfect.

Re: Watu...AKA Lil Chokwe

Hard to decide. I like futuristic design, cf, cl, size, only that thin tip is something I'm afraid while thing is not cheap. Is this really the thiniest tip in Spyderco or very tip is comparable to Yojimbo or other models with fine tip and ffg like Para 3? I'm not sure how useful this is due to the...

Re: What Spyderco is in your pocket today??

I switched out the scales on my Hap40 Delica wharnie from the Thunderstorm Kevlar to a set of TeroTuf scales I had on PE Lil Matriarch. I love the way the Kevlar scales look but the brass wire in them keeps poking out which isn't comfortable in hand and really not comfortable IWB! The TeroTuf in con...

The "Swick" concept has a long history beginning with the S.P.O.T model that we made 2 decades ago. I'll run it down once we're shipping them.

sal
Since you mentioned the S.P.O.T, a reverse S Swick would be nice option down the road ;)

Re: Maxamet edge retention

Another vote for likely having a burr. A few pizza boxes should be no problem for Maxamet. When I first got a Maxamet PM2 I cut up several hundred feet of cardboard, cut an aluminum can in half and then stabbed through it and the blade was still sharp! https://i.imgur.com/Wq73LLG.jpg https://i.imgur...

That looks great. I'm a bit jealous of this, I really would love to play with SE M4 but this wasn't the model for me.
It's an odd bird for sure, but the ergos from the big handle and blade shape make cutting up boxes so much fun :cheap-sunglasses

Re: Compendium of tips for sharpening serrated knives

I've got to this point of my first reprofile of an SE knife. Looks like I've got more of the chunky scallops to grind away to hit the inside of the small serrations. The tips are still slightly snaggy, but not nearly what they were. I'm guessing just keep at it, and I'll eventually get into those s...
